Compact Travel Case for a JJ-CCR

The JJ Kid
OK, this crops-up every now and again and I've just packed my unit ready for a Norway trip next week so here are the pictures and explanations:

I use a Peli 1600 flight case. Actually, mine is an old 'King Pelican' but the only difference I can see is the rigid handle. The new case has a folding one that slightly reduces the external dimensions.

There is an equivalent Storm case - the 2700 - which is slightly cheaper, at least on JitPak (I have no affiliation with this site, but have found them to have good prices and quick delivery).

With an aluminium backplate, no weights and an empty scrubber, this would weigh-in at 23kg

This is the case packed and ready to go:

The stand comes off the unit and sits alongside the canister.

The scrubber and head remain in the canister with the top hoses folded in with the handle along with the controller in an old VR3 case (the Shearwater foam case is better).

Normally the regs would go in too (rolled-up inside the stand frame), but as I'm taking a full scrubber, the tube weights and my 6mm backplate on this trip, they had to go in my other bag to save weight (this is just over 30kg).

The wing and counterlung are folded-up and placed around the stand:

The backplate then sits on top:

I then secure it with a strap and a couple of cable ties. A few more cable ties are taped inside the lid with a polite note explaining the contents to the security guys and asking them to re-secure it once they've inspected it (they normally do).

I just bought something like it.
Explore case 5822. +/- 6KG case.

If your checking this on the plane, you may want to put your Cell Phone number saying... If you have any questions I am at the airport.

Best regards,
Chett

I was informed that the images had disappeared - Dropbox have changed the old public folder functionality!

So I've hosted them on Photobucket and edited the post in case anyone's still interested.

I like the "A Polite Request" note! I suppose your note is a little more effective than mine which starts "Dear Knucklehead"! :)

Guys ... these type of cases are way way to heavy for use on planes where every kilo counts. ... regards Baz

I'm flying with BA next week, I have 2 x 32kg hold bags and 2x 23kg cabin bags. As does the wife. We'll be fine.

Mine weighs 4kg and the whole thing packed comes in under 23kg.

Stick your rebreather in a supermarket carrier bag if you like but I like some protection for mine

I was talking with Leon Scamahorn about travel, and he suggested the pelican cases were too heavy, and to look at a hard shell baggage line instead. As they are lighter.

Surely it depends on how much luggage allowance you have, how heavy your rebreather is and how much you value it?

My Classic in a Kent Tooling stainless steel cage in the AP crate comes in at just under 30kg with the head and BOV in hand luggage. No way would I trust a cheap hardshell suitcase to keep that lot in one place once the baggage handlers get hold of it.

Considers Leon flies rebreathers more than than probably most of us together....

But I think the operative word is "cheap"

I'm with Nick and Dom on this, i recently flew back from Hurghada and my unit was packed in a hard shell case, the case was badly beaten up in-transit and i reckon the only thing that saved my unit was all the foam and bubble wrap i put round it. I have now got one of the cases Nick uses (peli 1600) for future travels i am not too bothered by a little more outlay on luggage it is way cheaper than getting the unit repaired, and yes the operative word is cheap.

Hi all,

I cant see Nicks pictures of this anymore which I used to be able to. Any ideas?
Photobucket have gone all corporate on us and applied their new T&Cs retrospectively, rendering people's images hidden unless we pay an extortionate ransom.

I'll try to host them elsewhere.
