A cautionary note from someone who paid the price for transporting a JJ in a hard shell Samsonite type case to Truk a few years ago. The can was ever so slightly deformed in transit & was 'out of round' with absolutely no obvious signs of damage to either the can or the case. After diving the unit it was all but impossible to pull the head out & I literally pulled the tape handle off trying. Upshot was that after trying my head in various different cans I was convinced that the only logical explanation was that my case was in the bottom of the cargo hold & the shear weight of stuff on top had squashed the can. Bill for new can was nearly £1000. It isn't worth it to shave a bit of weight of your excess baggage...

Hi Bob,no head was not in. At the time I felt it would be safer in hand luggage. How would you go about fixing a deformed can? I discussed it with my instructor some time after the issue surfaced & was told there was no option except to replace it...
