cleaning mouthpiece and hoses

MediChem now make there own formula called ChemGene, which APD sell directly (cutting out the decanting and repackaging, I guess).

Anyone know how long the Chemgene "lasts" in a usable form after you make it? Since the bottle APD sell is enough to make 100's of litres diluted it would be a PITA to throw the majority of it away, I only ever needed a few squirts from the old buddy clean sized bottle, in fact I think my original buddy clean bottle still has some dregs in the bottom years later!

The bottle I have expired in 09/13 and I purchased it 3/11. I do not have a manufacture date, only a batch-number.

I need to get some more, I think it was £15/L and I dilute it about 4:1 not the 100:1 as recommended by MediChem.

Canadian forces did a test on the different cleaners, virkon came out as number one. It use to be available for download on dive gear express in the cleaner section.

But somewhere there is a published study where Virkon was way ahead of everything else that was tested for killing bacteria. It's important to use the correct concentration and rinse out well afterwards. But in my experience, anything that will kill the bacteria needs thoroughly rinsing out afterwards or you get a nasty taste in the loop that I wouldn't recommend breathing for any length of time.

This one: http://www.therebreathersite.nl/04_Links/Downloads/disinfectant.pdf

Caution: it's 12 years old and TriGeneII is no longer produced - it was changed to TriGene Advanced before MediChem stopped selling it and started with ChemGene.

I found this interesting, but does look like manufacturers data rather than independent: http://www.bioch.ox.ac.uk/aspsite/services/mediakitchen/documents/trigeneapplications.pdf

Here's something from MediChem on ChemGene: http://www.medi-mark.co.uk/images/uploads/CHEMGENE_HLD4H_TEST_SUMMARY.pdf
