The Best SM Rebreather.....THE KISS WINS!!!

Wow. Nice. Inhale and exhale cls with room for (2) 1L bottles. Looks like you used some revo parts and must have done some milling too. Like on the adv. I think I remember you saying it did better than you expected at holding a min loop volume. What did you do for scrub? VERY NICE though. I like how clean and uncluttered it is. When you go with (2) are you going to modify it to house 2-3L or still carry a few oc bottles?

It has 6 pounds of sorb via axial, 2 cells that run the revo dream, ADV, and an OPV on the bottom. Although i would like to have 2L tanks, the size of them will make the unit too big. I have already redesigned to loose 7" of height and 1"of diameter. when finalized i am hoping to come in at close to the same size and weight as an AL80. I have found the 6cf tanks work great as a BO unit as long as O2 is staged (even on big dives). If using as primary there will have to be extra offboard to give sufficient duration. the biggest issue is the use of diluent for the initial descent (thus the offboard ability is needed)

I've been looking for a SM breather for years and nothing seemed to fit the bill, there were several problems/limitations:

1) We had the conversions....meg/HH and the like, these were always to cumbersome, complex and they introduced way to many failure points with massive amounts of hose, they just seemed to negate the purpose of a SM breather....getting into small places.

2) Then there are the actual SM breathers however they are just to big and you still need to pipe in DIL from your other side so again it just seemed to defeat the purpose, how do you swing a breather that big in a small cave???? You don't

Now here comes the KISS.....so on a whim I decided to take the crossover it was recommended but not pushed by Johnathan Bernot of CCDS, I was skeptical and to my own fault I've been a critic of the KISS line for some time now. Well now its time for that hefty serving of humble pie.

The unit is fantastic and does exactly what a SM breather should.

I've figured out a way to mount 2 2 0r 3 liters in the unit so its totally self contained, I'll post pictures when my new unit arrives in a few weeks.

SM breather divers please provide feedback.

My layout is basically a SM DSV, a NERD and 2 bottles on the unit.

Help me understand something here. You are posting about the best SM Breather and your unit hasn't even arrived yet?

I'm pretty sure if I had posted something like this you probably would have castrated me for lack of self awareness and rightfully so but I just think it's funny because I assume you have been diving the crap out of some kind of loner or something. I am interested in the photos as well. I'm sure this post will likely be taken the wrong way but in case anyone isn't paying attention, I'm just facking with you.

Did you look at the SF2? Carbon Fiber, did away with a lot of the standard problem with converted BM to SM units. Like cells going wonky after three hours due to condensation build up. Has an RB80 style bellow so no couterlung mounting.

Would love to see a mod to fit onboard bottles to the sf2. I still think Dons is the cleanest best lookin fully integrated sm breather out there. And on revision 2 by trimming a few inches off the overall length and a whopping 1" off the diameter it could be an object of affection.

Don would like to be considered an object of affection and in some circles in Florida he may actually be...

Seems like you need a system with cl bags to get the 1L on board bottles squeezed in.
Pm'd Don about his. Sounds like we all get to watch in awe of his amazing looking rig as there are no plans to make extras. Still though. Everyone keep pushing the envelope. It can only get better.

Would like to see pics of your onboard. Mine our both onboard just external using 2l bottles. Right now I am using a Al13 only for O2 as its my bailout unit for the summer and dil is plumbed in from back mounted unit. Don let me know how the dual Sidemount goes as that is my next step. I haven't had something on my back in a few years and it's been taking some getting used to. As I was inside a sub this weekend I was thinking I much prefer to be in SM.

Here are a few long awaited pic's of the parts, finally assembly will be this week but this gives you an idea of the compact nature the KISS affords.IMG_0004.JPGIMG_0003.JPG

Jont I been doing the same just using 2l bottles but placing the valves forward instead of after and the hands wheels are in almost against the case

Looks good. I dont think we will ever have fully integrated self suffecient sm/bo breathers the size of an 80 just based on gas requirements. 1L looks like the best its gonna get for a small form factor but this does look clean!!!! Lets see it next to a 80 when you get a chance.

Looks good. My friend has been fussing with one for a while playing with tanks off board. The devil is in the details!

What DSV is that?

Peter

I slung my tanks on the other side (pair of tall luxfer 30's) ,and kept the 3 button mav there as well. One thing I thought missing on the sk, was a dump valve on the lower counterlung.

Mine wasnt stand alone as yours, but with the 30's , at least I had some amount of breathable air if the RB totally fails.
