The Best SM Rebreather.....THE KISS WINS!!!

I've been looking for a SM breather for years and nothing seemed to fit the bill, there were several problems/limitations:

1) We had the conversions....meg/HH and the like, these were always to cumbersome, complex and they introduced way to many failure points with massive amounts of hose, they just seemed to negate the purpose of a SM breather....getting into small places.

2) Then there are the actual SM breathers however they are just to big and you still need to pipe in DIL from your other side so again it just seemed to defeat the purpose, how do you swing a breather that big in a small cave???? You don't

Now here comes the KISS.....so on a whim I decided to take the crossover it was recommended but not pushed by Johnathan Bernot of CCDS, I was skeptical and to my own fault I've been a critic of the KISS line for some time now. Well now its time for that hefty serving of humble pie.

The unit is fantastic and does exactly what a SM breather should.

I've figured out a way to mount 2 2 0r 3 liters in the unit so its totally self contained, I'll post pictures when my new unit arrives in a few weeks.

SM breather divers please provide feedback.

My layout is basically a SM DSV, a NERD and 2 bottles on the unit.

A very big +1 to that. Lack of onboard bottles is what's held me back. I want self contained or nothing. Only the submatix has it. Very excited to see what youve done. And still want to see an in water vid or your removable revo/ contour sm harness set up.

It's not the Submatix. I think you're referring to the Proteus from Dive Systems UK. It's not available in the USA yet, but I've been pushing. Available in different configurations including completely self contained.

Yes the submit is self contained with 1 l bottles.....but the unite is HUGE!!! Taller then an 80 and fatter too.

Are 1L tanks really viable? I don't think so but they do deliver a unit capable of functioning on its own, so a pipe in becomes less of a concern.

The real problem with the submit and the Protius is that they aren't real products yet, Submatix hasn't responded to 3 years of emails and the Protius does have some beta testers around its just not a real product yet, as far as the c02 detector and the ECCR computer goes I don't think they exist at all.

But as far as either being a functional side mount unit, there just to big......for someone that has a physical issue they could make a lot of sense though.

Theyve always responded to me. I just recently had an email regarding their combi chest mount units. Am excited to see what you concocted though and id snatch a kiss up in a second if its what you describe. Still wanted to see d6s home brewed system too. I dont think it was integrated but sounded compact and simple

And speak of the devil. Did you ever post pics? I imagine Jon made some sort of cage or tube extension to house the bottles but w/ 3l that would be about 40". Maybe mounted to the out side to keep the length down but would then be about an 11" diameter. Bust out the pics fellas! The side kick is 21.25 x 7.25" and the 2l are 18.5" x 3.94. An al 80 is 26.1 without valve. Wheres it all go? Stoked to see it.

Anthony Tedeschi has made his sidekick self contained and has a few write ups, pics and blogs about his changes along with Kevin Leonhardt
