At the risk of incurring the wrath of Jordan, I like being able to plug any gas I bring into the loop. An extra hose tucked away on a bottle causes no damage. The benefit I gain by being able to use the loop for SCR if needed to stretch bailout gas as long as the loop isn't compromised is worth the extra hose. Is it really necessary? No. As Dave suggested, only the deep bailout really requires the ability to be plugged in. But having that ability with my middle and rich gasses is a nice plus.

BTW, I am not a fan of disconnects of any type on the O2 side with my eCCR. It is way too easy to get even the tiniest bit of water ingress that will positively foul the solenoid.

Hahahaha, com'on Ken, am I that much of a dick? On second though, please don't answer that.....

I agree with you on being able to plug in any gas I bring, that's basically what I was saying. I have Omniswivel QD's on every bottle, that way I can get whatever gas into the loop. On a long deco, I will plug O2 into my ADV so I can just zone out.

That's not what I said....

I intended to say that only my deep bailout needs the high flow QD hose that allows it to be connected to my BOV.

It and *all of the other bottles* have a standard BC connect hose under the rubbers to allow them to be plugged into a manual add valve, be that on a counterlung, or a drysuit.

So, to further clarify:

My left side "big bottle" has a first stage, a 10 inch hose leading to a QC-6 that feeds my BOV feed hose, a 44 inch BC QD hose to feed anything, and a 7 foot long hose second stage for my buddy. It's all bungeed down neatly and doesn't bother anything. There is an isolator (normally open) on the 7 foot second stage. Shallow this might be the only bailout I carry.

ALL of my other bailouts have 44 inch second stages on them and a 36 inch BC quick disconnect hose that can be plugged into (fill in the blanks).

Generally deep I carry 1 80 (left) and 2 40's (right) and Jitka carries 2 80's. We do a modified team bailout: Each of us carries our own dedicated 80 of deep mix. She carries an 80 of mid-mix and I carry a 40 of mid-mix and a 40 of 02. I can get myself thru most anything solo, and she can do the same, and we can "improve things" by sharing towards the end.

We do each carry a 4 foot male/female BC hose to allow sharing of onboard 02 to the other rig as well. This is really for the dives (shallow) where we do NOT carry the 40 of extra 02. Note that this shares 02 to the manual add valve only: We do NOT share 02 into the solenoid. I suppose we could.... (the 02 feed to the top of our Megs is connected with a QC-4, and could be connected with anything there), but we do not address it. 02 manually fed into the rig is fine.

And to ^^^^ <sigh>.. I really don't know why we bother, because we have enough OC bailout gas anyway. Just for cave diving it seems that it's easier to stay on the loop "if we can" rather than blowing bubbles. Wreck diving we don't carry the buddy-hoses.

Jordan, "Good Deed" with the use of the Y for the sharing-hose. I'll look into that for our rigs. Thanks.

^ the buddy hose.... This is the first time I've heard of this, today. Interesting. Now if my dang dive buddy would get a rebreather we could talk these things out...

You don't need a CCR Buddy to have the utility of a buddy hose... chances are he has a separate wing and suit feed from back gas... rob one of the two and you can steal diluent if needed.

The real question is "are you diving in an environment where it would have some utility?"

Young Cricket, when next I am in your neck of the woods you should come diving with me for a day. I do North Carolina in June, like clockwork. Captains Lady, Leroy as skipper, Discovery Diving in Morehead City. Be there.

:-) I like their site. I haven't used them as an operator. I've heard good things about them. "The Sutton Diving the Hutton", would be a great video title...

I love Moorehead City and have done quite a bit of diving off Hatteras. The John Jack would come down in the summer and we would have a great time diving off her. Wonderfull boat The John Jack. Zero was quite a character may he rest in peace.

Reading this I must have done something wrong. I simply changed my dry-suit nipple to the APD one (last one in the picture) and now all my hoses fit all my fittings. Cheap too - about £15.

Actually it was £30 as I fitted one to the air-gun too :-)

Matt.
