Probably the same reason that stuff from the US costs the same in dollars as it does in Sterling regardless of the exchange rate - profiteering. Can someone explain why santi drysuits
Cost almost half the price in Europe than in the US
A e-lite cost 1500 euro in Portugal, and in the us
Cost around 32700$$$us at current exchange rate
That's around a 1400us difference.

You sure it's $32700? Seems a bit rich to me![]()
It's because the US Importer simply adds on a lump sum as his profit. I avoid and suggest that others avoid products that are imported into the USA under this paradigm. There are alternatives to buying them in the USA, buy something else, or find a friend to buy in Eurpope and ship it. This is what we did for our Santi heated vests.
Bottom line is that there are too many markups in the supply chain: Manufacturer, US Importer, and Local Dealer. Buying in Eurpope cuts out the importer.

For a Drysuit? I go to my local drysuit repair place and pay for a repair with the $1500 I saved at the start.
For a vest? I'd box it and send it EMS mail.
There is no "factory support" here in any event. The importer has zero capacity to service them.

The cheek of them making profit. Absolute barstewards. Whatever next?

Business needs to make a profit to stay in business. No business = no product = not good for anyone.
With that said...
Import Distributors can either be offered a discount by the manufacturer below trade in order that the goods be sold "across the pond" in either direction for a competative price, or as the alternative they are forced to buy at the same trade price that a reseller "same pond side as the maker" pays, then export, then add profit, then sell for trade to LDS, then... well... the numbers all add together to make things uncompetative. That's the case here. Just makes it a non-player for cost.

It is not as simple as comparing list prices and subtracting one from the other. Import duties, taxes, shipping, exchange rate fluctuation and currency cost and insurance are a bitch and add a lot to any gear bought across borders.
I sold for DUI for seven years and when they cut out the distributor I had to deal with all the imports myself. Couldn't be bothered as the tax rules were almost impossible to work with as an independent. They added around ***163;500 to the cost of any individual suit and if the currency took a hit between you pricing and paying you paid even more.
Not saying pricing is right on this - I have no idea. But just pointing out that it's not quite as simple as the thread makes out.
