What Ali Backplate

As the title suggests, what Ali backplates are available that are close to eth standard JJ backplate dimension - the shoulder slots seem to be quite wide apart, and matching the Vee?

Also, what "reasonably" prices plates are there?

I've used both a Halcyon Ally and Stainless plate on my JJ for the last year with no noticeable increase in WOB.

I also have a can light on the left waist belt and a 1 litre suit inflation bottle on the right of the plate. Neither of these have affected the WOB.

BOV is Golem Shrimp.

As for cheap, the Halcyon doesn't fit that category, but it does work well. The Vee is slightly shallower than the JJ plate, but not by much at all.

I have got hold of one of those Custom Divers ally plates. Has anyone used one of those?

Pretty much any plate you desire will do the job providing the following is met.
The "V" of the plate must be adequate to allow proper uninhibited expansion of the counter lungs
Also the depth of the channel helps with this but that increases the height of the JJ on your back.

So the best answer is. Take your old plate with you and compare it with the prospective new plates. As long as the angle of the plate and the general conform of it is similar, you should be fine.

I have two of these and they seem to work well with BMCL. They are new and I could bring them over to Thailand sometime this summer if your interested.

Light Monkey, Halcyon and Agir all work well (not much to choose between the designs TBH).

Dave, I changed mine to Halycon backplate but I kinda like the JJ webings as I can adjust them to get in and out of it easily so I replaced the original Halycon webings with the JJs. Very small difference in the Vees... very minor.

I was gonna ask that question also as my JJ is too negative for tropical water diving. I'll use my ali Halcyon plate but with my JJ harness.

Yes yes... How are you mate! I saw that your location stated as Palau, so that confirms it.

How's the thumb? I hope it's healing.

The other thing you can consider in future is using aluminum tanks instead of steel.

i use a carbon packplate from divesystem. enough space for the bmcl.
