Are you sugestig Gorden wouldn't have evolved past his 1990s design?
I don't think of the
HUD as redundancy though so I know I've lost out on that.
Curious as to why you don't feel the HUD is redundant. It doesn't dive you depth or deco info, but it would continue to show PO2 if the Petrel quit working.
Piggy backed cells for a start.
No, that's the straw man you're creating to justify whatever unit your on at the moment and bears no relation to what I said. I've no interest in going down the rabbit hole of "here's why my unit is the right one" as usual.

Or trying to drum up sales by bolting on toys.OK but you can now buy a KISS with Shearwater display and Shearwater HUD as standard off the shelf kit?
Which in my view just shows the evolution of the unit. They looked at it and thaoght, that's an improvement and went with it
The core principle of fully manual and non electronic function, non invasive control unit remain, they just take advantage of a modern display.

But isn't the triple display also limited to the success or failure of the same three cells?
I don't think all HUDS are suitable to be considered redundant displays but the Shearwater with its independent controller and power supply and cell specific 3 LEDs showing actual PP02 meets all the needs I have to dive a CCR
For me, it was a wrench going from three cells to Shearwater. The three independent displays are truly independent - there's no air / water connection between the cells.
However, once you have a shearwater, there are small holes link each of the three cell cavities in the kidney, so a flood in one could affect the others. (But I think it's unlikely)
