Training agency approaches to OC Trimix - newbie question

Hi, I am currently looking to start MOD 1 and I would very much welcome advice from those with experience of agency variations of OC trimix qualification in the CCR world. It seem to be quite wide; from what I understand TDI takes no account of it with 50 hours on the unit(TDI Middle East) before MOD 2, whereas IANTD will allow OC Tmx divers to combine MOD1 and 2 with Normoxic Tmx qualification granted after 20 dives/25 hours. ANDI I couldn't understand even having looked at their website twice so non the wiser on that. It sounds to me like IANTD have the edge in agency one upmanship here in terms of time/cost, but would welcome advice from anyone who has adopted either of these approaches as to their effectiveness and value? (instructor notwithstanding of course) many thanks :)

My mod 1 ( inspo) was done with psai and that allowed me to use my oc Trimix down to 45m. I've only ever done 1 dive below 30m on air (during mod 1 course), I was narked out of my head.

The prerequisite hours have nothing to do with the mod2 trimix training you're about to do, they have to do with the mod 1 training you'll have finished beforehand where oc diving of any kind is pretty much irrelevant.

I was in the same boat and was off my face on air at 40m or was it 45m,
can't remember :) , it was during my Mod 1 course anyway.
I always dive trimix now.
PSAI was my choice for the very reason mentioned plus when you do Mod 2
with them it's smaller steps as they do a Mod 2.5 (75m) cert before Mod 3.

lol you can do what ever you like ,
Ditto.... Stuck 16/24 in my unit then moved to 15/29 & then 10/50 once I had 20 hrs on the unit. Only did a CCR trimix ticket (easiest course) as diving outside UK & had to show it some spotty dive guide!

I've been doing mod 2/3 dives since I graduated Mod1, am finally getting around to do my mod 2/3 class, simply because theres a truk trip I wanna take with Lance, some deep wreck dives in the Great Lakes, and deep dives up in British Columbia I wanna do.

Me too. I sacked air on dive 3 on my KISS and went to 18/50 then 10/50. No point having a dog and wagging your own tail. I'm out my tree on air at 30m on the box.

The only time I had any problem was some arse in a dive shop refusing to fill a 3l bottle with trimix on an OC card because obviously I was going to be using it in a rebreather he said. Twat.

There's not really an awful lot to running a rebreather on trimix, not enough to waste a few hundred quid on the badge.

I did mod1 and then bought a ccr and signed after 2 weeks of owning my ccr up for mod3 just 3 months later. Started mod3 with 48 hours on it (so that was 50 rounded ;), I would do a morning dive if they complaigned, haha, my average divetime was a little bit less than 60minutes per dive because of winter) and finished the course succesfully. The day after mod3 I did a dive to 122m (during course we went to 76 max, but all felt good to do such a deep dive safe). I just did course because of maybe a need if I want to dive with a divecenter. The 120m dive was planned before signing up for mod3, but it could fit together (and my instructor did not like it, but I said, accept it, or I won't do a course with you at all). In the week of the course I did directly after fnishing the course 5 days of diving over 100m. So now with a ccr trimix card no limits at all anymore. Still happy the way I did it. Not too fast, but no time waisted.

Most places that fill trimix in my area that are affiliated with a shop require stinkin' badges so if you plan to dive trimix you need to show the stinkin' badges. Otherwise your mixing it yourself.

Cheers,
Garth

Edit: me no stinkin shop, just observe and report here folks… observe and report

But in reality can you blame a shop that is protecting their ass?

Can you honestly blame a shop who is concerned for the customer?

Not everyone really knows how to dive… There are people that majorly suck and probably should never breathe a breath of trimix so Im not sure where I stand on this one really…

A lot of them got mix cards too.

Some terrible instructors out there, I got my ticket without getting in the water. "I've seen you dive, it's ok".
