Sorb contamination?

As I'm currently suffering from a chest infection that I'm 99% sure is due to the fact I hadn't disinfected my rig after my previous dives (symptoms started a couple of hours after two hours worth of diving) I started wondering about the ability of used sorb to harbor bacteria.

Does the heat/moisture produced by absorbing CO2 make the sorb more likely to harbor bugs or will the heat kill off any bacteria present?

I would worry more about the hoses and counterlungs than sorb. You can easily get mold inside the loop if not cleaned and dried properly.

I realise why I got sick and am still suffering because of it but was curious regarding the sorb as when I disinfect the loop this is one area that won't get disinfected.

I've no evidence to back it up, but I think that to be the least likely area of concern. Loop and Lungs is where the gross-is.

Ugh, sorry to hear. I had a bad chest infection that lasted about a month last year from the breather.

Make sure the doctor knows it can be, in some rare cases, fungal if it doesn't respond to antibiotics after a while. There was a guy whose doc didn't test for fungal infection after it didn't get better until it was too late.

My Dr gave me some heavy antibiotics to knock it out off the bat when I told him how serious it can be.
