Hi all,

I have a gas booster and small compressor that I use for boosting bereaver cylinders. Unfortunately I also have neighbours.

Does anyone have any thoughts on how to quieten down these little suckers?

cheers,

You could try asking them to keep it down a bit. Failing that, send the boys in.

Seriously, how long are you boosting gas for? I'll bet they spend longer mowing their lawns and doubt they feel guilty about the noise.

It is annoying when they use the compressor without asking ;-)

I suppose you're right re mowing ... I guess it's the combination of booster and compressor - they're in my garage and the echo does resonate ...

Maybe I am a caring and considerate old duffer after all - fact remains I'd like to knock the noise down a bit if I can

Could just keep your hours of operating to reasonable daytime and as minimal as possible and lobbing them a couple of crays every now and then.

go round to the neighbours explain and ask them what time they want dont mind the noise if you really that worried!

But I make sure I do not do any fills earlier than 9am or later than 6pm.

i fill mine in the garage with the door closed using smaller oil free compressor which seems like a similar set up. The noise that comes from the garage is a/ as Nick said not as loud as that the petrol lawn mower or b/ not as loud as my neighbours on the job!

Amusingly I had to point that out to them as there are small children on the same street.

I have a "Silencer" on the exhaust of my Haskel and Sprague boosters, I also bought an Atom air silencer on Ebay and threw felt disks in to really quieted it down.
Theres many ways to make the exhaust quieter just make a trip to your Home Depot and start "Constructing".

As far as the compressor goes, I haven't a clue unless you build one of those Silent housings that people were making for their generators during the last couple of Hurricanes.

There are lead laden panels you can get for deadening the compressor, also used on high end motorhomes and bus conversions.

Or get a better lower speed compressor thats not as loud. :)

My compressor isnt that small but since I switched to an electric one its only noisy on start up. Defo comparable to a lawn mower.

My booster is a noisey sod and I drape a folded dust cloth over it (got to be 100mm thick when folded) and that deadens the crack of the end stroke significantly.

ANd as above i dont do anti social hours.

get a wooden tea crate trim to suit , drill some holes in it for air flow and put it over the offending item . will reduce the noise .

Don't do this in WA.

With great weather comes great responsibility. Enclosing a compressor in a box sound tight enough to make a difference means forced cooling air and a baffle. Not impossible but not going to work by just chucking a box over it. Few enough holes to keep it quiet, with the ambient temps here, will cook your compressor.
