Sidewinder

Mike Spirit Sidewinder.jpg

We don't have many pix of it yet, but here is one of Mike diving the Spirit Sidewinder. You can see the scrubber canister is sidemounted, by his arm, right by the cylinder. Counterlung's are the same as the Spirit series of rebreathers, wrapped around ribs.

Did anyone at Tek Dive USA get any pics of the Sidewinder?

I didn't take any pics, but it looks totally bad ass for sidemount cave diving. It was only one a few things at the show that really made me stop and look at it.

It was definitely a nice looking setup. The one thing that I did not ask about was expected scrubber duration. I am guessing that it's similar to the Sprint.

Thanks, it's kind of hard to picture from the one side, but imagine it is going to be pretty tiny, especially as the existing lte is pretty small. Was interested in how the scrubber attach to the lungs.

The way to look at it is that it's based on the Sprint. The scrubbers have been separated and moved to the right and left sides of the diver. The counter lung(s) are essentially in the same position as with the Sprint. It's a very interesting setup. Mike said that they were still tweaking things in the setup.

Based on the same canisters and counterlungs as Spirit/Spirit LTE. I saw it in action in New Mexico but was sworn to secrecy until after the Tek Dive conference. It's a sexy wee beast. Mike still has some things to tweak, as mentioned, but it's on my list. Nice thing is I already own a Spirit LTE and a sidemount harness, so just have to get the additional pieces...;)

Hi
I hope this product is not going to end up like the SHEPPARD of two years ago:
-a new product out
-no information
-disappearance
The Sheppard looked like a good idea and it seems this new unit is also a good one.
But I don't get why KISS is not giving any info...

Sheppard was never manufactured/available. I don't know why not, perhaps other units/changes took priority and its slated for future release or it wasn't financially viable or? Guess that's a drawback of showing preproduction units, sometimes people get excited for products that don't appear.

Found this video online

Also photos on Edd Sorenson's facebook page as tbone said.

Here's a prototype with the CL removed. The newer version I've seen doesn't have the scrubbers in the fabric bags but the whole thing is Rhino lined. The counter lung is an "H" like shape with the connections near the bottom. It is very interesting concept and it dives pretty well.

There are a few pictures on rebreatherworld. One of them shows the CL from the side. My concern is whether the CL in this position will work with a whole range of sidemount wings? The xdeep for example which wraps around the lower back would likely press down on the CL I would have thought? Not sure I fancy Hollis SM100.
