Shearwater battery voltage question on a JJ

Hi all,

I just downloaded my dives and saw that on a long 2 hour dive my battery voltage graph dipped for about 5 minutes (from minute 83-87) from 3.48 to 3.3. It is a noticeable dip and I did not see such dips on my other dives (which were 1 hour). It is still a bit off the low battery warning threshold but I am curious. Also the first hour is much more stable with less fluctuation than the second hour although the fluctuations are probably small.

I guess this is the battery of the predator handset controller that is depicted in this graph, right?

My question: when you read out your predator from the JJ, what battery voltage dip is normal or ok, or does it mean the battery is showing strain? It was delivered in December and I have done around 9 hours on it.

Best,
Alex

I believe it is due to a drop in water temp. Do you remember if that possibly happened around the same time?

Some one with some experience on the older Predators will prob have more info as I believe Shearwater fixed the battery low warning from showing with a firmware update some time ago.

You don't need to remember as the shearwater download will also show a temp trace.

I don't know if this is the case with your Shearwater or not, but after a series of "faulty" batteries that weren't, I contacted Bruce who sent me a replacement battery cap. Quick and efficient - it was everything you want customer service to be

My problem was that some batteries "died" within a couple of hours of diving but the new cap fixed this.

It might be worth sending your profile to Bruce and seeing what they think?

At the stage of the battery drop did u shine a light at the predator or go somewhere bright? When it changes to high brightness battery voltage will drop substantially.
Temp also plays a part.
So does the battery holder and expsndion/ contraction of the battery due to load

Yes, good point - at this stage in the dive we reached reef top and it must have been substantially brighter there.
This is probably what it was.
Thx,
Alex
