Setting the record straight

I guess it is time to set the record straight about a couple of things involving rEvo.

1. I do not hate my rEvo or think it is a bad rebreather. There are a couple of things about it that have never made me real happy and I was never shy about saying so. The ADV is a crap design and no way to dump water were always the two main concerns to me, but never enough to look for something different since I still thought my rEvo was the best choice for me and my style of diving. The rEvo also has some great innovations that make it a real game changer. I absolutely do not regret buying or diving the rEvo. It has been some of the best dive experiences of my life.

2. I do not now, or ever in the past, have any hard feelings or resentments towards Paul Raymeakers in regards to being able to purchase counter lungs. I have stated this before and I will say it again. I fully understand his viewpoint on this and his policy of it being done at is service centers only. This does not mean that I agree with it, only that I understand it. This only became an issue when it was brought to surface via another diver while I was actively researching for my next rebreather. Yes it did play a small part in my decision, but there were other more important things involved in my decision. Paul has always been available for help and advice to the dive community and his continuing reseach and developments are a valuable asset to our small community.

3. I would not be getting a new unit if my rEvo was a micro titanium and thus much lighter for travel. Due to this I began diligently researching for the best choice to change to. I still find it hard to switch units from this one since it has treated me great and done some really massive dives without issue. It will take a lot of time and dives to develop this kind of trust in a new unit.

4. The reasons I did not pick another rEvo are as follows, but not in any specific order of importantce:

A. Lack of modularity due to case and scrubbers
B. No water traps in lungs
C. No way to clear water from loop
D. Can not purchase internal parts for DIY replacment
E. My lack of faith in US service center
F. Hydrostatic imbalance in lungs
G. Lungs are difficult to find leaks in and harder to repair/replace

It is an important decision for any rebreather diver. You can really respect the thought you put into this post. Thanks for sharing Don. Happy hunting for you. Take care,
Garth

Yeah yeah yeah fec all that i just loved the Hitla Sketch :)

Lets face it changing units is fun, it puts the spark back, it a bit like sleeping with a new girlfreind

Bad news is after the novelty wares off, sometimes you look back and miss the old girlfriend :)

Also have you noticed how often the new gail freind looks very simila to an old one?

Come on admit it. Thats why you went for a hammer head clone? On a subliminal level, you miss Kevin :)

I am still laughing about the Hitler video myself. On of my finer creations undoubtedly.

Yes, I must admit that I have a serious spark of excitement and nervous anxiousness in regards to my new baby. It is going to take some time to get used to the new stuff and get all the finer tweaks made that I already had done on my rEvo.

I have always liked several of the design aspects of the Hammerhead rebreather and actually inquired about purchasing one without the JM electronics. I did not get the answer I wanted and thus I gave up on getting one. I made the offer to both Kevin and Randy that if they would give me a HH to dive for a year and the JM electronics did not fail once in that time, I would pay full retail price for it but if the JM electronics did fail then it was mine for free. I never got one and that pretty much told me that neither one of them trusted the JM stuff very much. I just could not see putting any more money in Kevins pocket after my previous experiences until I could be proved wrong in my opinions. Still waiting for that proof too! I have faith and trust in Randy where I no longer do in Kevin so missing him is not something that could ever even be contemplated, let alone happen.

I am going to get this engraved in on the back on my Defender can so people do not get things confused again:

Its like one of those movies where they hate each other in the begining but you just know they will be together at the end ;)

Thanks Don for the honest assessment of the revo.
If I were in the market for a new ccr a revo would be on my short list.
However I have my concerns as well. But it seems every machine has its own set of issues.

When I meet a new ccr diver I ask them how thay like there machine . And no matter what ccr thay have every one of them will tell me how this machine is the best and everything else is junk. I guess when you spend $10 grand or more you need to reassure your self that you made a good decision.

It's refreshing to hear some less than flattering reviews from people who own and dive a perticular breather.

So, you are saying Kevin is definitely "off" your Christmas card list?

If I ever sent a Christmas card to Kevin, he would immediately sent it to the FBI to have it checked for anthrax before opening it. Much like I am constantly searching the environment for Kevin's ninja assassins.
