Pimp my JJ

To fit the evolve 40 wing on the JJ and leaving the 3L cyls inverted what other hose routing modifications would need to be made?

HP hoses, adv supply?

Thanks,

I've made quite a few changes to mine, some small and some large. All are really configuration changes and the main unit remains untouched.

Fitted 3mm bungy to Predator controller and threaded my compass through it also.

This is my current and favorite configuration.

Compass/Predator combo sounds interesting. Any chance for pics?

I fitted the compass to my Petrel and it works really well, but you can use the exact same method to fit a compass to your Predator. At least if you have replaced the original straps with bungee like a lot of guys do, and if not, you can make a loop or two of bungee behind the compass and thread the straps through it.

I prefer to have the compass on the back-up computer; that way if I twist the assy to only use the compass, I still have the main computer visible on the other arm.

Yeah, sure, no need for straps, you just wrap some extra bungy around the slots in the standard Predator plate and tie a knot at each end, which keeps the bungies apart really well. With the sight glass in the side, I can read my compass bearing and my Predator at the same time.

Fitted the two compass/computer. Not sure that the compass will be exactly true after that....

Why? The Predator is made of Delrin/Acetal and has an OLED screen, a number of solid state microprocessors, a single battery and depth sensors. None of this at such small voltages is likely to affect the compass in the least. Different if it was a motor like on a scooter, where you have magnets around the commutator and much higher DC voltages. There is no large metal object on my wrist, so nothing to affect the magnetic needle in the compass.

For what it is worth, I've tested another compass beside mine to check its accuracy and it was spot on when coupled to the Predator.

Am I the only one that hates the bungee mount option on the Petrel?

I've had bungee on my Predator since day one but those crappy little bungee straps that come with the Petrel don't seem up to the job. The holes are too big and the supplied bungee can be pulled through unless you tie a massive knot. I'm sticking with the elastic straps.

As for mounting a compass on the same bungee - why bother? I don't need a compass on every dive and if I do wear one I can do so in the same location as the Petrel anyway. I do have a Trilobite cutter on both by Petrel and Predator though as they are always needed.

and some form of audible signalling device for when your holding on to the anchor chain doing a rather good impression of a flag :rocker:

Great Mark!

Every CCR i have owned i have modified:

Inspo Classic: HUD, BOV, VR3inline SS back plate & Harnes, travel frame, Ali Box

KISS: SS Cl case, HUD, new BOV, Stand, Falcone ADV, Shearwater in line deco display, Cooper hoses

rEvo, Shearwatr HUD, Stand, BOV, KISS front mounted 02 add

Then i baught a JJ

It came with everything i always felt i needed on a CCR. I was fussy about the BOV in that i felt the GG Shrimp is a better unit than the JJ BOV but apart from that i havent needed to alter it

there is a chap on RBW in Hungary who had a run of FOC plates for shearwater puters. got mine and it is lush. 5m bungee fits perfectly and the knots needed are decent size as well.

FOC welll... postage payable.

That'll be for the Predator, I have a bungee backplate for mine.

The Petrel doesn't take a backplate as it has strap slots moulded right into the case - hence the need for the crappy bungee things that ship with it (see Raptor's second image).

They should have moulded bungee holes into the case too I reckon.

Nick, can you not just force the bungy through the slots with a pick or screwdriver like I've done with the Predator controller?

Jase the slots are much further inboard than the predators brackets and it makes the computer really wobbly on your arm.

I have a idea I think will work well and should hopefully have the first done soon - will post pics when complete!

I have fed bungee through the slots on the petrel and its not too bad. Yeah it's mounted a little further inboard then I would like but does the trick. If I wear either the predator or petrel further up my arms with the original straps they always slide down and are a pain to put back.

Bungee mounted straight on the housing seems like the way to go for me...

Changed backplate and harness to halcyon. Bungee loop to fix O2 Mav. Added dil Mav, also fixed with bungee to keep D-rings free.

Standard config

Took off the SPGs and added button gauges. Will eventually change to Galileo Transmitters
Put a manifold block on the O2 (like the dil is as standard)
Got 2 1.5KG Bright weights, cut off the rubber, wrapped in insulation tape and put in the tubes

Wet suit config
Found it a bit base heavy so tend to put the cylinders back upright. So a couple of hoses and one omniswivel to allow that.
Also changed to an ali bone backplate

Current project. In the process of putting on a Mk6 BOV. Just need to get a holder for the HUD

Routing with the Apeks regs isn't great due to the location of the ports. It means the button gauges and OPVs are a little exposed. Also have not tried any of the Dil configs with a third hose for a BOV. Not sure how your would do it if you were using gauges.

Dil with 23cm hose to ADV. Pic shows 56cm hose to LPI, should be 45cm. O2 is 15cm and a Scubapro angle to the head. 60cm hose for the o2 to MAV

In Bikini, we were using mix dil and air bailout. I didn't configure like this at the time, but after some playing I realised a could lose a hose from the Dil first stage, which allows it to be turned around, giving more protection to the button and OPV
JJ - Upright - NO LPI Wing via offboard - Side view.JPG

Tried a Mk11 which has better port orientation. If I do go down the Poseidon Mk6 Bov route this will work quite well due to the right hand feed, and you can just see a spare port angled to allow a hose to come round my head

Also had a look at using Mk25s. However I didn't try it on so don't know if the loop hoses have enough movement. The other problem with Mk25s is that the O2 is a poor fit if you have an M26 cylinder and converter. Plus I wasn't sure about getting the IP down

Next weekend I might redo the Mk11 and 25 shots but with a pos test so I can see the impact on the loop hoses

Hope this is useful
