This is just COOOOL but unlike most cool products, this platform converts your iPhone into something useful with endless possibilities.

Basically its an underwater housing for you iPhone but what makes this so useful is the fact that its a platform that takes advantage of the computing power of the iPhone, its rated to 200 meters, currently it turns your iPhone into a complete dive computer, allows for photo and video, its easily mounted to a tray.

It currently tracks depth and direction with its accurate built in compass. Its use for underwater survey is game changing, the days of slowly surveying and documenting every station will be a thing of the past.

Transmitters are imminent and that will allow you to track the stats of several divers.

So it has some form of INS in it as well? Or are you thinking you can just type in the data instead of keeping it on a slate? Unless it has some form of dead reckoning and can actually track distance travelled, it doesn't do anything more than a compass and depth gauge except maybe making data entry a little easier.

Does it actually allow the phone to function underwater with the touch screen, or is it just another housing like the DiveNav stuff?

Id rather a go pro for video and a Sheerwater for deco

if it can get headphones that work underwater id be interested

I'm with Mark, no provisions for headphones or an underwater transducer and it's not worth a grand to me. If it could play videos/music for deco then I'm on board, but without it, it's a deal breaker for me

I too am happy with my Shearwaters for deco. I too would love some music on deco! That is the next gear revolution I would sign up for.

Like most I know I use a survey book with pages. As a cold water diver I can't imagine a key pad as usful to me. I kind of assume this just for warm water wusses. ;-)

Somebody came out with a housing for using the iPhone for under water photos. I've heard great reviews but it's only out for the smaller iPhone right now. As soon as it's available for the big phone I'm getting one.

Correction, those of us smart enough to move away from the cold water to a location that no longer requires the use of dry gloves....

having grown up in Mass, lived in Maine, and now living in the Carolinas, 50F water doesn't bother me nearly as much as most people I dive with, but if I have the opportunity to cave dive in 70F water or ocean dive in the 80's? Guess which one I'm going to pick... :-D

People (some) have been using electronics for cave survey above water for a good while. And there have been underwater cases for tablets.

Even still, it's problematic. The compass in the phone is not really any more accurate. And if you're implying that it can do some sort of inertial tracking, or tracking of multiple divers I would have to see it to believe it.

Book, compass, pencils, etc... is cheap and reliable.

games, movies, headphones.....something to help pass the time on deco and I would spend a lot on one. Deco calculation and ability to video...I already have that covered.

I'm not sure how you can maintain proper trim while diving if your gonads are made of styrofoam.

iPhone. iTypo. iApologize.

I just want audio on deco, thats it. workable to say 21m/70ft. perfect clear audio through hydrophones. nothing else.

I had a discussion with a computer scientist and cartography guru about 5 years back. I was thinking I could get rich by using all the cool technology in the iPhone for underwater applications. With its gyroscope, compass, etc...would make underwater surveys and navigation a breeze, right? Wrong. Apparently, level of accuracy on the gyroscopes means that after about 5 minutes, your positional accuracy would be something like +/- 500M. I don't remember the exact numbers or calcs. But damn, I was bummed. To have a gyroscope sufficient for accuracy, you really need a small suitcase-sized gyro.
