Near miss: O2 valve closed

Good post thanks for putting it up

I am not a fan of physical check lists pre dive. Often the conditions i dive in are not condusive to relaxed pre dive checks. As a result i have developed a kitting up routeen that i hope covers all possable pre dive errors.

Stage one is HUD on suit inflate on dill on 02 on bailout gas on & check presure gauges.

Stage two is put on rig, put on controler & conect suit inflate

Stage 3 is check BOV for bailout conection by breathing OC, check wing inflate check suit inflate go closed cuircuit and check ADV fires

Stage 4 is alter set point from 0.19 to 0.7 and ensure solinoid fires and unit acheives stabel set point whilst prebreathing.

Stage 5 check HUD agrees with wrist display and check manual 02 add by flushing with pure 02 to 0.98+

Stage 6 maintain 100% o2 all the way to the point of decent (IE shot line or cave entrance)

Thats about a simple as i can make my predive. Touch wood, I havent missed anything since adopting this routeen.

Some people will attach a bolt snap to the dream and clip it off to their hip d-ring like a DIR diver does his SPG. In your case it would be both sides.

I experimented with that but don't feel the hip D-ring is a good solution on the bailout cylinder side (which eventually will become both sides I suppose).
The only approach that sort of works is over the shoulder clipped to the crotch ring, but that is only marginally off the chest...

Mark what conditions preclude a list mounted on your Shearwater? i hate to beat the dead horse of aviation experience, but mental checklists are more prone to failure than printed ones. this is an established fact. don't see why this would not carry over into CCR diving

If you look very carefully at his list you will notice that the very first word on his list happens to be my name. This is irreputable proof that I am indeed his hero, now and forever more.

Maybe the reason Don's bailout is the first thing on Jeff's list is because Don screws it up so often or forgets to bring it. Ever think of that?

I read Don blo. Shouldn't that be the other way round?

What kind of knot do you recommend with a bungee?

I have a thin bungee folded double from one side to the other on my back, this puls enough to keep the dream behind me and gives me enough to pull it out wide enough to have a glance at it if necessary . I connected the wire of the dream to the middle of the bungee so it is stowed away in an s-curve on my back and never folded double or pinched . Works for me :) ( so far !)

Thanks.
Still experimenting. But the more I dive the unit, the more I wonder why the gauge hoses and the dream cables are so long. They should stop at about navel level, so that a quick hand motion should be enough to check them.
Currently, I have to fumble to grab each at crotch level, make a 45° rotation of the forearm, and back. Not a very natural movement.
