Mounting Shearwater HUD controller

I've always used the basic option of fitting the HUD box onto the exhale hose with the supplied strap but I always think there must be a better way.

I am pondering fitting a metal plate between the hose turrets. It could be attached using two longer bolts in the centre of the kidney. The box would have to be easy to remove and the plate would need a hole so that the draw nut can be accessed without having to remove the allen bolts.

Thoughts ?

When I had a classic I had a N@90 stand for it. I found the HUD box fitted well inside the handle area held on by a couple of zip ties.

So that's a similar setup to what you are considering and it worked well.

Instead of attaching something to the kidney why not use the attachment points your backplate is attached to?

If the HUD side cable was about 10cm longer the brain could sit inside my inspo case, out of harms way where the button couldn't be accidentally knocked.

As it is, tucked under the hose just back of the T piece kinda keeps it out of the way and protected. Mostly.
