Lungs for inspo

Hehe your only one month late

<sigh>... I was not reading the thread, and it was just the other day reported by a member to the moderators for attention, so I responded. Should have looked at the dates. Oh well.

Tear Aid has been well proven by many people, including the Navy (albeit not for CL's), and I would not hesitate to use it for a field repair before I could source real replacement parts. It's pretty high tech stuff.

Jay Harding, who is a member here (and who I spent the day freediving-spearfishing with today BTW) makes CL's from scratch using heat fusing materials. Ping him with a PM and ask him to join the conversation. I think he would have some interesting information to share.

Best,

Dave

Thats pretty much what stock mediums look like on me without the need for any modifications (192cm and 110kg :) )

Ill put the picture here also so you can see how they are on.

sorry guys but where, in the UK, is the best place to get unlined cordura?

I can only find one lined with a coat of rubber which is a sewing-machine killer!
thank you
Greg

You want cordura lined trust me (its called "backing" BTW), without backing it frays like buggery (as do most fabrics) but you need a suitable machine, needle and thread combination to stitch it.

Thats said I can probably get some from one of my suppliers, PM me if you want to discuss.

I'm about to order custom bladders for my lungs now so I took them out to measure the old ones.

I just wanted to show you how the patches looks like after 2 years. I patched the old T-piece holes with TearAid two years ago and you can´t tell it´s so long ago :)

That stuff is great and I would not hesitate to use it again.

Hello, just out off curiosity,

I use tear-aid too, but does anyone think there might be concerns with the glue off-gassing for sometime after patching the hole? :poke:

Off course, seeing the size of the patch, this may be purely academic :wavey:

thanks for sharing!

Tom

I've considered using 2 pack drysuit glue, after a week or so there's no smell from it whatsoever, no idea whether this is a reliable indicator or not!

What are water bladders made of? You can get 2-5l bags on ebay that look heat or similarly welded together. They're dirt cheap.

Im done with gluing and making my own, that´s why I´m going to order specially made just for me :D

I have been diving the lungs for two years now and I'm satisfied how they preform. During this time I have flooded them, worked hard, done deep dives and they have worked without any nasty surprises.

I can´t recommend any one else to do like I do, but I can at least show them.

Hi Erik
Could you send us the drawings / plans for the CL's?
I would like to attempt building my own, as I really like your idea

Lovely job Erik, looks real professional. Just a quick suggestion to consider adding water drain holes on bottoms and air vent holes on tops. I added the water drains but never thought about the air vents until testing in the bath when I kept thinking I had bag leaks due to air bubbling out of sewed seams. Of course, the air quickly vents and then no more comes out but if I were remaking another version I would add some vents to help this process

Thank´s Garspeed!

I already have water drain holes in the bottom, it´s the blueish net material in one of the images.

I have dived with them like this for two years and it have worked great.

I have done some changes after using my lungs for several years.
The one thing I have noticed with the old design is that the t-pieces can twist outwards. Its not ha problem but it could be better.
The other thing was that they could move out from the backplate in the bottom. I never had any problems with WOB but I felt that I needed to make them better just because.

This could be done on JJ lungs for those who want to easy take them apart for cleaning.
