Looking for Carbon Fibre T-Bone Backplate

Diving in a 3mm suit, my unit is fundamentally negative - I even took off the stand to shed some weight.

So looking at replacing my 2kg PLDT SS plate with a similar shaped carbon alternative

Any idea where I could source one?

I have a super thin SS dogbone from Golem you could have for cheap. About 0.5kg but I could put it on the scale

you can find a CF backplate, but they are really really expensive. I looked it up before heading to truk last year. CF doesnt hold up really well in SaltWater either.

Halcyon do a CF backplate - I have had one for 2years and do a fair (200 dives. a year) amount of diving and it looks brand new - why wouldn't it hold up well in seawater?

FWIW, I have tried and tried all sorts of things for taking weight off kit and the backplate is not going to save you a vast amount. After all, a bog-standard steel plate weighs about 2-3kg and an ali one will be about 0.6 - 0.8kg or so. I doubt carbon fibre is going to get that much less, as there's only half a kilo to play with in the first place! If you were using a 5mm steel plate, you would be in a different place but...

Is there anything else you can change? Cylinders for example? Steel cylinders v ali ones that is, not necessarily carbon fibre ones!

Thanks all,

In the end, I got hold of Bago at PLDT and they are going to get a Alu version of the SS one I have sent over.

All is good!
