I have however dived in 4'C with the same mask/gag strap config and been quite comfortable. Pick the wrong hood and I feel it as well.

My current cold water unbranded 5/7mm hood is getting a little long in the tooth but these look interesting to replace it http://www.diverlaura.me/dive-gear-review-spyder-k01/

I'm with DeepUnderground on this - the "wrong hood" or thickness has nothing to do it with it. My hood won't fit properly if I have a mask strap underneath it: a thicker hood won't help, as it is the same on a 3mm, 5mm or 7mm one. If you have a hood that doesn't tuck around the sides of your face properly, then I might agree that yes, it isn't a problem but in 4C water, you're going to get cold around the temples because your hood doesn't fit properly! It probably has more to do with mask design/shape and your face shape.

I use build and pre-dive check lists like religion. BOV inspection looked fine before the dive. Next time I will give the mouthpiece a jiggle, though :)

Worth doing! The chap I did my Mod2 with passed on that lesson, along with checking the condition of it very carefully, as he had a mouthpiece split at depth so it leaked really badly. He now carries a vac wrapped mouthpiece and cable tie with him underwater. In the event of the mouthpiece falling off or splitting underwater at depth, he has the option to bailout to OC and carry out a quick repair to get the loop back into service. Seems sensible to me and a simple thing to include in a pocket alongside the spare mask etc. but I don't have a vac sealer!

Why would you need to vac wrap the mouthpiece? Its just a piece of silicone like stuff.

Also i just replace mouthpeice at the beginning of a new season along with the usual o rings, its super cheap.
