GUE CCR, It's OFFICIAL

I was wondering is the GUE course recognised by JJ or do
you need to do a mod1 with another agency first ?
I have only flicked over the thread but didn't see this mentioned,
apologies if it has already been answered.

The course is recognized and you do not need a mod 1 first. Hoverer, you need to be an qualified, active and experienced GUE Tech 2 diver and meet the GUE general prerequisites.

Hi Richard
if I may ask a question, When GUE started to consider using a CCR what environment were they considering the CCR for i.e. was it for cave's or open water?

Thanks for the thoughts Richard L. I don't think anyone is concerned about the volumes of BO carried, its the use of dil as BO. Using the "next deeper" standard gas means that for a 250ft dive you are likely selecting 12/65 or 10/70 for the 7L tanks. You can't bail to this on the surface and need to have some sort of deco gas ready instead. Where is that BO reg stowed, how is it accessed, how to do "unlearn" going to the necklace when you have an issue at or near the surface? These are all valid questions and concerns, I don't think I have all the answers here, but I did expect GUE would have some sort of standardized approach.

Compared with the manifolded 7ls, using a separate 3L dil cylinder of dil 10/70 and having the necklaced reg (or BOV feed) come from an offboard BO tank. Whether that is 11L or something different isn't so much the concern. Its the muscle memory of going to the necklace combined with the use of the next deeper standard gas to allow a reasonable dil flush at depth.

If you have any pictures of how an offboard BO reg is stowed "ready" for bailing out at the start of a dive that would be interesting to see. Between the 2 regs coming off the 7Ls and the loop I'm not seeing a good way to make a deco gas reg available for shallow BO - but I'm interested in learning how other people might do it.

I honestly can't see how it is different going to a deco gas on the side for the shallows (0-6m) compared to diving a RB with standard side slung BO bottles?

I also don't see why folks are getting so worked up about the lack of being able to go to the necklace - its exactly the same as diving hypoxic mixes OC (which any T2 diver can handle) - GUE does have a standardised procedure for that and that is what we follow.

Because you can actually start an OC dive on a deco gas if you want to. I don't do many OC dive with 15% or less O2, but when I did, I deployed a EAN50 deco gas reg and jumped in breathing that. I had to wait on the surface a few mins for my buddy's and you can get pretty winded breathing 15/55. It wasn't going to kill me right away, but it was work to breath. I would not want to have an issue on CCR and bail to 12/65 or even less on the surface or near the surface. Or worse bailing at depth and then ascending straight to the surface on it. And I don't like deploying a stage/deco gas reg in a hurry.

If you want to dive combined dil/BO that's fine. For me, the drawbacks exceed the benefits.

On OC you used a travel gas. Why not use your RB as a manual O2 breather on the surface and when descending/ascending thru the hypoxic zone. If you still have to bail during this small portion of the dive the procedure is the same as on OC.

Hi Mark

Having Tech 2 as the entry level makes sense for us right now due to a range of reasons. Will T2 always be the requirement? Nothing is written in stone but for the immediate future we don't see compelling reasoning for lowering the requirement but things may change and then one could argue for Tech 1 with experience.

Let us run with the ball for a while and then revisit and evaluate

A glimer of light is now visable at the end of the tunnell :D

Thanks for taking the time to write the other posts, much apreciated.

for a ccr /gue diver he would need to have been pushed of the unit , to need a reg / oc gas . if using a low ppo2 dill as bail out they will need a few deco gas bailouts as well so i dont see a big problem ,

long hose and bov are out of use till min mod is reached , it,s even seems less of a problem at the end of your dive ,

its a problem yes , but thats ccr diving , you cant cover your arse all the time with a simple move ,

only time i need to get on oc fast on my unit at oM was when i jumped in to close to the down line buoy , hit my dsv hose on the buoy and it pulled the rubber Mouthpieces away from the dsv i had no problem deploying a stage reg /50mix even with one hand as my other had / glove was snagged on a fishing hook,

jumping off a boat/starting dive on ccr rig is not the same as starting your dive oc on a low ppo2 back gas ,
and a ccr diver will do well to remember that , if he want to have a long life ,

ccr you have a working unit keeping set point (good ppo2)
you top up the ccr with 100% in 6m or less (better ppo2) works even if unit it off

im not keen on a bov as doe,s induce a few problems and some of them problems can kill you just as fast as the things your trying to prevent by adding the bov in the first place

i see a few things i dont like in the gue set up, and a few thing i do like , sometimes you cant have your cake and eat it not even gue ,

id start to train them on turning off the ADV at start of dive always ,till past 6m and turning it off again on the way up from 12 or 15m .

and keep a hand on the 50% as they jump in have it on till thay hit 15/18m, then rurn off , could do same on way back adv off 50% back on , and lots of green button work when in 6m or less ,
