Fitting one of these & got to dive it for the first time yesterday. Gotta say I really enjoyed the ease of use & generally comfortable feel it provides, however I noticed that venting the loop from the mouth on ascent was not easy & I ended up blowing out through my nose instead. Maybe I overtightened it or maybe its to be expected, but I'd be most interested to hear how others deal with this issue.
 
Sounds like the strap was a tad tight, when adjusted properly it is easy to vent via your mouth and the mouthpiece still stays in place with no water coming in. Just loosening your lips should be enough, try the strap a little looser next time and it should be fine.
 
I tighten my gag strap just enough to keep it my mouth comfortably. I can release my bite on it and it still stays in place. Saying all that though I still vent thru my nose.

Possibly over tightening. I did this at first, now it's just tight enough that I can relax my jaw and it stays put.

Venting through the mouth has never been an issue with it, for me. Venting through the nose is a pain in the arse as the gas tends to get into my hood (I wear my mask under the hood). I only do it to clear my mask, if I can help it.
 
Thanks for your replies. Sounds like in my ignorance I pulled it a bit tighter than I should. I'll try slackening the tension a wee bit next time out.

Well, it doesn't come with a manual or £99 PADI course so you did what you thought was right :-)

I also had it too tight to start with, I also played about with having the strap at different angles around my head till I got the "pull" just right, if you go too low or high it can pull into your gums- I found a sweet spot and tension eventually.

Cracking piece of kit that should be standard on all CCR IMO.

This is the important thing. The strap is designed to be placed around the crown of the head so comes up at an angle from the mouthpiece.

This is why I now wear my mask under my hood as the gagstrap has to go over it and if I had to remove the loop in an emergency I'd run the risk of pulling my mask off too.

I have had a 50/50 success rate with the gag strap whether it pulls the mouthbite into my gums or not. Not yet figured out where the sweet spot is for that, suspect it might be something to do with setting loop hose fittings up at the wrong angle as well.

Can't wear my mask under my hood, get cold water right along my temples and it's really unpleasant, how do you get round that or is it a case of mtfu?

That is important gag mouthpiece or not to ease comfort and use.

I find (on my unit, BMCL YBOD) with the mouthpiece closed and front loop fitted the mouthpiece point straight up, once opened this is then perfectly aligned for my gob :-) YOu just have to find the right angle and remember the closed position- then add the gag mouthpiece and don't do it up too tight.

My mask/hood combo doesn't leave much of a gap.
 
I recently purchased a KISS SideKick and have a GG Shrimp on it with the 90 degree fittings on it. I love the unit but found the BOV to feel very heavy when scootering. I switched to a drager gag mouthpiece during my last 5 day trip of diving and I am very happy with it. It took a little bit of adjusting to get it right but works great in relieving the stress etc on my mouth and gums.
