dil mav vs adv

humpbackdiving

Silent but deadly....
I have an inspo with bmcls.. Well sort off. But I don't think this is a unit specific question. If - I have not don this yet - but if I was going to remove dil mav as I have an adv i can always do dil flush with adv. Any cons??

Thanks

Greg

I dive a JJ and have added a dil MAV in favour of the ADV. A dil flush is much more controllable with a (JJ) MAV. Otherwise, for me, manual control of the loop is better than using the ADV. Since, I have added a TX 100 to my FFM so I can sniff dil and blow it into the loop to increase loop volume and do the reverse to decease loop volume. My ADV is now more or less redundant...

yes you won't be able to shut the ADV off.

I've happily dived without the dil MAV when I had a leaky hose but I put the dil MAV back on as the ADV annoyed me by firing whenever I stuck my head in a hole. to stop this I often shut it off on the bottom so like to keep the dil MAV as it's easier to reach in a hurry.

dil flush wise if I shut the GG BOV and roll the left shoulder down it doesn't half do a quick flush across the cells just from the ADV.

My ADV feeds a lot slower than the MAV so for a flush I'd want the button. Plus scrabbling around near my ear is a PITA. And it always feels sketchy pushing on the diaphragm to me. The left-shoulder-down feed is annoying enough that I, too, will shut off the ADV and just use the MAV when I'm chasing crays and have my head down.

If you wanted to really save space and hoses, remove both and use the OCB as your dil feed. Switch, inhale, switch, exhale*. Tidy hoses, tidy loop, remove two points of failure in one fell swoop :D

*note this is not serious advice.

I've been diving on the JJ with a 3 button block (one of the original Titan aluminium ones - have to dismantle an dcleanevery trip though). I did this because on my Kiss I use one of the rEvo blocks with the buttons and orifice all there in one hand, and that is great ( I think so anyway!). I dived an Inspo with BMCLs and the two seperate MAVs and i thought it was a bit cluttered. Insp ADVs seem a little more sensitive than the JJ, and having been used to the Kiss, where you don't even really have the option to manual add by pressing the ADV, the JJ ADV worked fine, and is easy enough to reach to add.

APD bmcl are very tiny. Well known for shit breathing on the surface etc so i cant really see me loosing ADV.

I dont use full face mask (well i have one with a zip from the bedroom lol!) so that would not work. Faffing with feeding the loop with opening and closing OCB will not work for me.

I am not bothered about failure points as inspo has 00s of orings so a few more on the mav/adv dont really bother me!

I am after declutter and reducing the risk of having a black eye after a dive when the mav swings around.

I did consider placing mavs on the waist.

I'm still rocking the OTSCLs but a mate is taking great delight in being able to expose his chest at me with the backmounted lungs.

To avoid MAV knockouts he runs the hose pair on each side through the D-ring on the harness you'd clip your top stage clip onto. They hold them perfectly in place.

I did not like them through the drings but have them on a bungy tied up to the dring. Similar solution but does not clutter the dring.

I still managed to challange my face with the mav when kitting up. but this just could be due to the OPH. I guess i'll have to be more careful whilst kitting.

Ive run my hoses thru the shoulder D ring, I also have a bit of bike tube on the harness a few inches below the D ring which the hoses also run thru. This keeps the MAV's tucked in near my hips. Works for me..

I use my ADV, But in the case of it free flowing which it has done before, I am able to isolate it and continue to Man Ad as needed.

Also the AP MAV's have a second IN port on the underside, To which I have fitted a check valve and male coupler, which is my offboard plug in point for deeper dives.

I have the AP BMCL on my Inspo and really like them. Both for the less cluttered chest and the small size of the lungs. I purchased a triple manual add from Add Helium for it and have everything on my right side now. Much cleaner, and I am planning to use smaller diameter hoses in the future.

I kept the adv as I really like it on hot drops and scooter bombs; most of thetime I shut it off when I reach the bottom and do the rest with the MAV. I wouldn't want to try a flush with just the ADV as I think it would be a bit difficult to get to in some of the tight spots we all go to on occasion.
