CCR Storage

New Member
Just purchased my first CCR and was wondering how everyone stores their unit when they are not using it. I just got back from Florida where I was doing my CCR training. Everything was cleaned and disassembled and now sits in it's original shipping box. I was thinking about making another work bench dedicated to my Defender. It would be good to be able to bungee the unit to something while I was assembling it as well. I would be interested to see what everyone else does. Pictures would be awesome! Thanks!

I stand mine on the back of the shipping crate propped-up by an old sofnolime keg. In the garage during the spring-autumn and in the house on the floor during winter.

I prefer to leave the unit assembled but not sealed. Mostly so I don't misplace any of it.

My meg is always fully disassembled. When assembling, I use a Home Depot "X table" and have a bungee on it once I hang tanks and head on the canister.
 
I have a hook bolted to a truss in the shed and I leave it hanging by its handle from that. I can leave the front loop hanging from the inhale/adv t side and open to try and dry out. The cell cage, bucket and scrubber (in a roll type dry bag) live on the bench next to it and the cylinders sit in an old milk crate almost underneath it.
 
My rEvo sits on a dedicated dive bench pretty much fully assembled, just need to add sorb canisters and it's ready to dive.
 
Paul.... Welcome back and to the dark side!!! I have a dedicated bench simply for ease of working on it. It's typically set up and ready to go short of having the scrubber packed.

welcome to the other side paul. I just put 2 upper and 2 base kitchen cabinets and a 6 ft home depot counter top on a 2x4 frame with wheels on bottom and walla instant work station and storage all in 1 ill send a pic soon.

like Matt, it's a bit cold out there at the moment so she's in the living room much to the wife's annoyance!

Be methodical about cleaning it and drying it out (especially electronic bits) when you get home (it is the one item I never leave 'till the next day after a trip).

In the often damp and dismal UK, my CCR lives in the spare bedroom which is kept nice and warm and dry. Also my garage has been known to have mice from time to time and they like to make nests in dive kit, the more expensive the part to chew the better :-)
 
As part of the post-dive rinse, I disassemble the unit. Counterlungs and hoses get rinsed thoroughly and then hung up to drain and dry (counterlungs hang hoses down). The backplate and wing also come off and get rinsed and hung up. The unit gets put on one of those smaller (2' x 1') plastic 'X-tables' while I remove the scrubber and dry everything off. Then it goes into my dive room in the house and stays like that until the day before the next dive. Then I reassemble the backplate, wing and main unit and put it back on the table. Finally I attach the counterlungs. Final assembly including hoses, BOV etc. happens the night before the dive during the pre-dive check and assembly.

Of course this only works when diving from home, but that's 99% of my diving. The bonus is the counterlungs get a good dry and airing.
