AP release new handset

Next available slots for upgrade AP2020 VISION installation for the week commencing 16th November 2015. APD is unable at this stage to guarantee being able to do it more quickly. Requests for this upgrade are booking up very quickly. My Lid is allready at the AP Diving factory in Cornwall, for conversion.

My HS display is a 2009 model (no auto switch) and was needed service for replacement of two buttons. The upgrade cost had an instant deduction on £100 corresponding to the cost of works for replacement of the two new buttons.

Also with this upgrade i get the auto switch "for free", as my 2009 VISION display doesn´t have it.

Consider also the fact that new APD units will come out with new AP2020 display (not as an extra).

IMHO 2th hand APD units will drop in market value, specially the ones who still have old displays and no auto switch.

HUS is 47 GBP more expensive than the upgrade, does not provide auto switch to the CCR, does not increase the value foryour CCR (updated machine) and will reduce number of potencial buyers (recrational CCRs must have auto switch).

I considered the HUS when it was released but it's a lot of money and I still would have wanted a better (more legible) primary display. To upgrade my 2010 Vision would be £1290 for the HUS and £853 for the new handset. I view the HUS as a luxury but the handset is a necessity as I struggle to read the current version.

I reckon i can further justify the spend by the saving on the prescription mask that i am heading towards, or the selfie stick that my dive buddies keep suggesting i use so i can read the existing handset!

I'm little bit pissed. Just got my lid back from factory service (last Friday). They replaced all three buttons, but didn't give any info coming update to handset. This was second time I had problems with buttons (once needed to replace lcd display).

Announcement was made yesterday and first slots for upgrade are available mid of november. seems to me that marketing is faster than production ... or are there are insiders getting earlier slots?
as I'm exactly in the same situation as PSMEDO I'm quite happy to get a new handset instead of once more new buttons. The drawback is that the unit is not available for diving for three month. Perhaps I should ask for replacement lid while mine is on Cornwall ...

Oh bullshit, I wouldn't be amused as well ... as I'm foreseen for new buttons as well (second time as well) I'm lucky that I sent my lid this week to UK and not earlier.

Don't forget the new battery to drive all this bling :-)

Make a dive with the vison handset on left and a Petrel on the right arm and compare the screens, you will give a s... on the battery when replacing the oldtimer by something state of the art. ;-)

On the other hand the battery lifetime of a Petrel with Saft Cells is pretty good, better than the vision. Ok the Petrel does not feed the solenoid ...

It does on a JJ and still kills the AP handset for battery life. Predator too.

How long do you get? I get 30-35hrs on fresh, and 15-18 on rotated. I typically rotate at 12-14 so never see a battery warning.

I'm just getting (trying now caught up in new handsets!) to get the rechargeable which is 7.4v so should last longer still.

Matt.

I would like to reply, but I have no clue what you mean!

No idea, but a lot longer than that. The Predator controller is powered by an internal SAFT (or any AA battery for a Petrel)

I bought a load of CRP-2s when the scare stories emerged about lack of supply. I had to sell a load of them when I realised I'd never use them. I still have more that enough to see out my 'diving career'.

The new JJs use regular 9V batteries.

Anybody has any clue about power consumption?
I dug the APD Website and the upgrade does not mention the need to change the battery setup.
I am wondering if I can still run the unit with the CR123 battery package or I have to upgrade to rechargeable batteries.

Thanks

Fabio
