A dive at Madison Blue 11.9.14

First dive at Madison. Not exactly great videography but a start. Will continue to think about how to make this a little better, and what lights/tray etc i'll need. I enjoy the video part though… If I could dive every day I wouldn't be doing this for sure though. :-)

Very nice. The sidemount bailouts looked well rigged as well. Would you mind explaining your system?

The diver in front of me was wearing LP steel 50's cave filled with a bungee at the neck. On his back is a mCCR hammerhead with RevC and shearwater handsets wired into the head. He has the OLED screen on the RevC which in my opinion is the only way to go with that handset! :-)

I will say this video was an afterthought. I am learning to cave dive on every dive I'm focused on the dive and not the video. The GoPro was strapped to my head so sorry for the shakiness.

There is a lot of room for improvement but figured I would share anyway. :)

It gets to be interesting. There is cave awareness, rebreather awareness, buoyancy & trim awareness, as well as go pro awareness***8230; :-)

I was actually surprised that the head mount strap was actually really secure. As long as you aren't pulling at your mask, running into things or doing something weird with you regulators its not really an issue.

I would see the people that do the "long hose around the next for buddy bailout" would have an issue if they were practicing or in an emergency.

I'm impressed.

A goPro strapped to someone's head that managed to get back from the dive!

:)

Pretty good for a Go Pro with handheld dive light! You must have edited out the part at the end where you swam into me and Randall at the exit and then blinded us with your light ;-)

Would be a lot better with a video reflector and tray. Will do that next time. :)

I've started with head mounting GoPro and found you need Dramamine to watch the video then tried the GoPro on a stick and that was ok. Finally I bought a tray from Backscatter in Monterey, see below.

This is pretty slick and is made to accommodate their Sola video lights. Though the only issue is that the whole rig is still pretty light, making the footage a bit jerky at times. I hand made a mount for the front of my macro port on my DSLR housing and that works the best since the housing is rather large and heavy, it acts like a stabilizer. Another great tip is to set your video setting to a high frame rate of 60 or more and slow your video down in post. This works really well with underwater footage. Anyhow, not to hijack your thread but just throwing out some ideas on getting decent video with a GoPro.

Cheers, Keith

Thanks for the advice. I have a tray that I should really try out with a reflector.

Do you have a YouTube or Vimeo account?

Thanks
