JJ BOV air flow position

The air flow inside my BOV is pointing towards the central flapper, making it deform when purging above water. Below water is not a problem. Should I turn the flow the other way, away from the flapper?

By central flapper you mean exhaust valve?

It would make sense that it shouldn't blow air at it. Or make a defector

I am not familiar with that valve assembly...
But depending on your skill.
If the internals allow... I would soft solder the hole shut, and re drill a hole facing more towards the mouth....
If that's more than you want to do...
I would bend up a small piece of ss that is in a circle goes around the barrel and deflects the air 90* and either gets soldered on or glued with JB weld or something....
Or maybe get someone to 3D print something that slips over and has some holes drilled in to redirect the air...

Remember this is life support... if you are not confident in what you are doing,
don't touch it....
