Guys .... here is a link to a post I put up on my facebook site regarding the salvage of the WWII wrecks over there.

Wreck salvage link

This is not just salvage its a total pick up and go job - mind blowing stuff.

The scuttle-buck is that the steel being pre-nuclear is worth a lot for testing reasons but who knows ???

regards Baz

Here is the UK's view

Anybody hear of a story about the UK selling the salvage rights to these wrecks years ago ??

I recently asked a scrap metal dealer if the pre-nuclear metal was worth more for that reason and they told me "no" that the value lay in its purity. Seemingly background radiation can be accounted for in manufacturing.

That's dreadful.

Having said that, and going off on a tangent...

"A military wreck should remain undisturbed and those who lost their lives onboard should be allowed to rest in peace," he [British MoD spokesman] added.

I never understood this distinction. Considering ships that were sunk during wars... They all died in war. Most didn't volunteer for it. Yet the ones that we must absolutely respect are the ones who could defend themselves? The ones who sailed in harm's way with nothing but their balls... plunder away?

If this clown had said "war wrecks", I'd be right behind him. "Military wrecks", that's selfish, disrespectful - and therefore hypocritical to boot.

I think that has to do with the language of the law that protects those wrecks. The US has similar, with the Sunken Military Craft Act, which raises interesting questions about Merchant Marines and other non-military craft that were sunk in the service of their country. Coast Guard? NOAA? NASA?
