Cave cage for the HH/Defender

Just finished 15.5 hours on SG defender in cave country. I borrowed randy's head and I'm pretty sure the scratches in it were from him not me : )

Anyway, does anybody have any ideas on a cave cage to protect that really nice looking extreme head? Not that I ever hit the ceiling anyway, but just in case!

Dear "hbm"....

LMAO!!!! My experience is that the majority of the scratches end up on the locking ring (which can be periodically replaced is you feel the need) and top back edge of your tanks. :) My back loop hoses also take a beating from time to time and I have covers for them that you have seen. (Happy to make you a set if you want them.) With all of that I think you will find that the head will take a beating without any problems... I know that mine has!

It's kinda like NASCAR.... "If you aint rubbing.. You aint racing"...

Dive Safe!!

If someone were to give me a Defender for a few years, I could probably design something like that for you. :sneeky:

No need to worry, the tanks will take the majority of the scratches, as well as the bayonet locking ring and the back of the canister. I used to use loop hose covers, but they are a waste of time in my opinion, they just make the loop less pliable. I wish my loop to be as flexible as possible, especially the lower loop. The more you cave dive, hopefully the less you will crash into the ceiling! Cheers...

I said scratch, not crash! Actually i have been cave diving for 21 years and i still kiss the roof every now and then. But however have never clamped a light to the gallery wall! Sorry couldn't resist : )

If indeed you are referring to my photo equipment:
Those c-clamps were just something I had laying around and were the right size and weight to attach strobes to with Ultralight hardware. I have never clamped anything on a cave structure of course, and I have plenty of witnesses.....

I'm about to put loop covers on my top hoses to protect from a snakebite on the hose where it goes into the delrin pipe connector near the head. Hoping that will offer a little more armor against an unfortunate smack on the rock ceiling I'm not expecting.

I typically have hose covers on for just that reason. To Dan's point, you need to have them made out of the proper material. Mine are usually made from 2mm neoprene. This ensures that it does not have a negative impact on the flexibility of the hose and accomplishes what you are trying to do...

Remember that Dan has Cooper hoses, in case that makes a difference.

They had to figure out some way to get rid of those JM electronics.

Funny, they've been working great for me! ;)

I've learned by watching Don stand up at Ginnie from the picnic tables on how .... not to treat your handsets... Baha!
