TiZip

interresting..

well, this is a picture of the documentation that came with my zip in the lube packet.. from the TiZip factory in Germany.. (not the american distributor sales guy)'

And I was told not to lubricate the zip.. especially not with petroleum or paraffin based wax and only lube the dock-end with a silicone based lube, preferably the one supplied by TiZip.

And here are a couple of picks of the lube itself.. I only used this about 5 times in total over the past year.. never had any problems with the zip leaking.. (well, once... serves me right for not zipping up properly though ;) )

Yes I was lubing the dock.

I heard back that the delaminating is a problem when the zip is not being completely dried between dives. This is an issue for me because I (as I'm sure many do) quite often do week+ long trips of back to back diving with little opportunity to 100% dry the suit until I'm home.

That is why I have requested a BDM brass zipper replacement. The TiZip seems to be not up to the task which is a pity. Maybe in a few years they will have perfected them.

bummer - sorry to see the zip is not holding up for you :(

I do about 3-4 divers per week and usually leave my suit in the back of my truck, so the zip pretty much never dries out either. I also dont think I've rinsed my suit in well over a year.

BUT I do rinse the salt water off the zip after every dive with a gallon jug of luke warm water before getting out of it.. dunno of maybe the salt could crystalize and chafe the zip?

Old topic, but I have same issues: wet at docking end, sometimes a totally flood, sometimes little bit wet and sometimes dry. Last 3 times: really wet. I grease it too, if I forget, then for sure wet.
Zip is only a year old and used a 70-100 dives.

My suit will sent back. I am wet all times now. No damage can be found on the zip, but I it is really heavy leaking.

After my earlier praise of the T Zip, my Hollis DX300 zip failed! It delaminated same as Silentbob's picture above (on the inside). Hollis (Oceanic) turned it around very quickly (was sent on Tuesday, had it back on Friday - great service) they no longer use the T Zip, I have a YKK plastic zipper now, seems much heavier duty, will see how the backing stands up for wear. I would guess the problem is where the zip is stressed, mine failed over the shoulder (front entry) where my shoulder straps are. I think it wears against my undersuit through use?

It does sound however like it is user error if sometimes it leaks other times not? I forgot to zip up fully the other day after a surface interval, that leaked, I got wet pants!!!!!

I kknow that Otter uses the YKK/BDM plastic zip too (and a normal steel zip, you can choose). Don't know if that is better, but with the YKK plastic zip you don't need to use the grease.

I don't think that is correct. My Otter was supplied with the YKK and I was told to silicon grease it which initially I forgot all about. After about 50 dives I started to get a bit damp in the area where the zip closes which prompted me to grease it and I've be dry since.

That is strange, I didn't get any grease with my Otter suit. When I asked in shop, they told me that grease is not needed. At home I sent email to ask again, and I got answer that with the YKK/BDM zip no grease is needed.

I feel like a dinosaur having an old-fashioned brass zip and using wax as lube!

I'm dry though :-)

Matt.

I was talking about tizips this week to an independant suit reparer these zips are cheeper than thé brass ones but when you get them on a new suit its not cheeper funny i dont think they are better.
