Mouthpiece Retaining Head-strap

My mate always dives ccr wearing a helmet. He has adapted it in such a way that he can now clip in a mouthpiece retaining strap and works really well. If anyone's interested, I'll try and get a few pictures to show how he's done it.

I'm interested! I made a helmet to go with the KM48 mod 1 FFM but need to find a way to put it on and of easily :)

It works really well. Obviously the large O rings go round the hose. I have a pinch clip on both sides. When kitting up I don helmet, clip left side clip in, breath off loop and clip right side in. The mouthpiece rests in my mouth with no effort. If I need to come off the loop, I simply unclip pinch clips and remove. Can be done in seconds.

THANK you very much , nice solution, i think i will try it !!!!

I used an Apeks lip guard on the mouthpiece, but because the fit it so good it meant I could not vent gas out of my mouth on ascent easily. I removed lip guard and works a treat now.
My thoughts for having was if I had an ox tox. It'll make it easier to be recovered with mouthpiece in.

I'll try and find link for Apeks mouth guard. Paul, if I need to come off loop for oc bailout gases I just unclip press clips on either side and allow loop to become buoyant over head. Totally out of the way, and left with female parts of clips just under each ear. Works for me.

I took off my Draeger as over multiple days of diving 2-4 hours it caused a lot of irritation to the inside of my lower lip. On the final dives it was really hurting. Tried everything other users have suggested, but have gone back to my Secure & a bungee retainer.

Same for me...I really tried to use it but had to remove it due to pain on long dives. Still love the concept...someone just needs to make a better one.

^^^^^^ +1

Finally gave up using the Draeger retaining strap due to lower lip ulcers, Aqualung do a military version I'm told, which cant be bought by us civilians !!

Anyone in the military used one or even get hold of one please ?

David.

I've had mixed results with mine, and I need to figure out how tight to have the head strap. I thumbed a cave dive last weekend because I was getting some water in my loop, and I'm leaning toward the mouthpiece being the culprit on that particular dive. While wearing dry gloves, it certainly isn't the easiest to adjust the tension on the strap. If the strap is too loose, it defeats the purpose of the whole thing. Too tight gave me some jaw pain. Hopefully I can find a happy medium, or I'm going to try something else or go back to the sea cure.

I find that the Draeger retaining strap pushes the top of my BOV mouth piece on my upper front teeth and is rather uncomfortable, I find myself pulling the BOV away from mouth to ease the pressure during the dive. I have tried various strap tensions and positions but the discomfort persists. I will continue to us the strap for now continuing to experiment with potion and tension but, if I cant resolve this I will be forced to ditch the strap.

my experience is that if I have my mask to tight, it pushes the mouthpiece lower and starts irritating. As soon as i found out this, never had a problem with the drager mouthpiece ever

I found that rotating the hoses in the reverse direction to the pressure from the BOV changes the pressure on the mouth. In other words, the strap causes the least pressure when the hose is aligned to keep the BOV from rotating.

I spent Feb 16-23 aboard the Truk Odyssey, and dove my Hollis P2 with Draeger mouthpiece/strap the entire week, up to 4 hrs a day. It didn't give me any problems, and I will continue to dive my P2 with it.
