HH Flex Video

I haven't seen this video posted on CCRX yet.

Curious as to what everyone is thinking about the flex... excluding the HH electronics, as that has been hashed out several times already :karate:

Flex Rebreathers in Tank Cave on Vimeo

Looks like there is still some configuration issues to work out (streamlining the oxygen bottle etc), but this newest video is looking much better than previous vids I have watched.

Watching this gets me excited to get back to out to cave country, FL next month... hopefully the floods settle down.

Supposed to have mine by June so I am very anxious to put some hours on it and see how it works out. I know a cave or two that are just calling out for sidemount exploration!

I was curious about the dangling lead weight hanging from one of the divers. Seemed like there has to be a better place to attach the weight. That said, these guys seem to be doing some awesome dives with these new units.

I am looking forward to seeing the many ways people configure their O2 and Dil bottles on it. Even if you decided to put those on your back its still way more low profile than a standard RB.

Really, and I mean this most sincerely:

I am concerned that we have a Moderator who sells diving equipment, who has three family members effectively acting as sock-puppets talking to themselves, etc.

It's an unfair influence to the forum, and it's.... bothersome.

Dave

.

Get over it.

If forums stop mates bantering, family or not, they die. If being a moderator precluded friends or family posting, ditto.

Sockpuppets are multiple identities of one user designed to cover their identity. When three or four members of one family dive they are entitled to have individual accounts and have no regard to avoiding threads just because one family member has posted. Al and I regularly post on each others threads and even sometimes disagree. Are you suggesting that I should have no input here because my husband dives?

Finally, while I am still awaiting artwork, dive addicts have become advertisers. Whilst I see no commercial posts at the moment, just like our other advertisers (including those who don't pay ;) they are entitled to use the board.

I will not tolerate further discussion or pursuit of agendas on this point.

I like the dive community regardless of which forum I'm on.

About the flex, I heard that it doesn't breathe well in head down position. When all you Thornton's dive your units, please come back and share your experience about that. I have a few dive buddies that feel like an improvement can be made so before I enter another raffle I would like to know what I'm getting before I have to pay the shipping on it..

That's just mean Garth! I have never won anything in my life!

You can bet that we will be posting on here with truthful reviews and comments. I'm especially curious as to how it will compare to my SM HH I am building with BM counterlungs.

Very cool! I tried to win that AK47 for you but no luck.

What impresses me the most about the hammerhead is the build quality of the parts. They go together amazingly. I had a nice 90minute dive last night and even enjoy cleaning the thing.

I'm really looking forward to CCR cave since my training in Florida. At this point I have little interest in learning to side mount my rebreather. I suppose I don't have a valid reason at this point.

"Cave People" trademark of the Thornton's. now that would be winning. :-)

Looking forward to diving the deep dark holes with you!

You are right, no reason to sidemount a CCR unless you have too. We have a few cold water caves we are exploring that have various SM only restrictions and we are getting back there far enough that CCR should will be nice!

If you have the Flex positioned correctly it breathes fine in head down position, since the counterlungs are right next to your lungs on the same plane.

I dove both and like Flex better (bias!) as it is a self contained unit. You have to "dress into" a BMCL based SM unit. Flex, you just clip on like a stage. For sump diving the BMCLS unit would be really hard to keep clean and intact.

You think he is mean to you. I dive with him and I still blow bubbles.

Jakub,
Or anyone else who has dived the Flex or for that matter other similar SM rebreathers. Have you had any problems with junk getting in the Solenoid because you are constantly unplugging the O2 feed to the Solenoid and/or the leaky valve?

I assume other people that use off-board plumbing techniques could also answer but I imagine they are not plugging in off-board O2 as often as one would on a SM rig.

Curious if it has been a problem or not? and if so what precautions you have taken?

I probably should let Jakub answer this one but I figure I would mention that while in Class with Randy the other student had Jakub's back mounted unit and it had a 60micron filter prior to the solenoid.

Josh,
I did not have problems with the Leaky valve so far (I do not use solenoid on my Flex). I have a 60 micron filter installed upstream from the orifice. I also have Omniswivel shut-off QD on the hose. But most importantly I plug in O2 while kitting up so it is still dry (most of the time).
