Bikini Atoll - June 2012

What type of self contained breathing apparatus Edward is diving theese days?
I was there two times, 2006 and 2008 , doing it how Tom Mount et al layed out the diveops based @ Bikini back in the nineties, I suspect I was quite narked at times, thanks for reminding me how majestic this divespot is, THX for the writeup, also dived Prinz Eugen, very impressive too,
did'nt make it to Sara's machine room though :)

Twin 80s full of 21% with a small deco bottle of something - 50% or O2? Dunno what, but he was always the first one in and the last one out of the water.

Thanks, 21%bottom and 80% deco used to be "regular" Bikinistyle.

Hello,

I think Pete Mesley still has a few places on one of his trips going this year. Unfortunately I am on it so it might put a few people off.

sharks

fun. just don't see any in the underwater shots. i thought that there were many, many sharks all over these wrecks. did they get fished out like so many other places in the world?

We did see a few sharks on the wrecks and were buzzed a few times on deco. I'm not into squidge and went to Bikini solely for the wreck diving.

We did however do one afternoon dive in a location popularly known as 'Shark Pass' which is where Simon's surface photos above were taken. I'm not a photographer and, aside from Simon, the other photographers on the trip don't frequent this board so I'm not sure what photos were taken. There were plenty of sharks under the water there believe me. Maybe Simon has some evidence of that too?

ok that's good. the big animals present just add to the fun of the wrecks and sometimes make for some good photos on the wrecks

I saw sharks on every dive. Some very inquisitive. Buzzed by a pair around the props of the Saratoga and they were fighty enough that I started to worry but they legged it when they saw Toomer emerging from the shadows and swatting at them with a scooter ...

We need Mesley's video of you plummeting into me at Shark Pass whilst you were too busy concentrating on the incoming 'artillery', complete with his voice-over commentary.

Actually I was feeling pretty thankful that we don't have that video !!

Guilty of concentrating on something else ... the tens of angry looking sharks wondering what we were doing in their pass. Didn't fancy the night dive.

Tb.

I put this together last night. I did leave the "embarrassing moment" out. I do have to say watching it all again brought back all those memories!!! Epic!!!

Hope you enjoy it.

just go to petemesleyphotography.com and click on the Bikini Shark videe! (cant post urls yet)
