Optocon, is it worth upgrading?

I have a unit with optocon on it. It had it from purchase so i have no baseline comparison. I have noted thar there is a significant delay in readings as the optocon only broadcasts every 5 seconds or so. This means a wait between injection and readings. It works fine though but you just have to understand you are working slighty behind in the readings.

TPM and HP Optocon upgrade
I had TPM and HP Optocon upgrade done last autumn.
It got rid of the problems with the TPM cable connectors and wrong HP readings, so it was very good thing to do.
Now it is much easier to place the scrubber inside the machine, when there is no need to connect the TPM cable in a narrow space.
I did not have the O2 Optocon done, since there were no problems at that side.

Just had the full optocon upgrade on my unit...it is awesome...that is all

This is true. I agree it was a bit harsh. When they are working they look like a good unit.

Or buy a Sentinel, 4x the cost, you never go diving and spend lots of time shipping it back to the factory?
Why does anyone buy new a unit?
(Inspiration on ebay went for £900 couple of weeks ago, working, serviced classic with 3 new cells, even with every mod available its still half the cost of a new one)

No idea, there hasnt been anything truly new in 40 years. It's all just putting bits together in different ways with different materials with different profit margins.
I wonder if we will achieve a critical mass soon of enough rebreather divers of the right age range so that those exiting the sport provide a big enough pool of used units to provide for those entering?

Maybe Sentinels will be a bargain in about 4yrs when the Beta phase is over?

Personally I have had my unit sent back to the factory twice this year due to fact that HP Sensor system fails to give accurate readings. (And one time for HUD fix - so my unit has spent there more than 2 months in 2012.) In March the diluent HP was giving me readings between 0 and 50 for full cylinder. They repair it and I had to only pay for the work which was around 60 GBP plus shipping back/forth (~90GBP). Now after less than 30 hours of diving the HP sensor gave me diluent readings from 350 bar to 999 bar. And even when the valve was shut down and no intermediate pressure in the system or cylinder hooked on first stage.
Prior to sending the unit Phil was offering the Optocon upgrade for 570 GBP or old HP fix for free. I took the old HP for free. Now my head has been in UK for the last 2,5 weeks and Tim emailed me today that they do not have parts available for old HP Sensor system for long and that is the reason it has taken so long to fix my unit. I replied asking does this mean that in future there will be no longer possibility to have fix on the old HP Sensor system and Tim's latest reply was that yes - they will not fix the old systems in the future which means that all old existing Sentinels are need of Optocon upgrade no matter what.
I don't know what you guys think, but from my point of view this is bit disturbing that they (VR Technology) do not have parts for their designed system which is less than 2 years old and all consumers are forced to pay in the future several hundreds of pounds in order to get their units functional. It's a rip off! I am starting to think that instead of upgrade I should get another brand of rebreather which is less vulnerable&robust and the customer service&support not like in VR and carries manufacturer responsibility.
