Bikini Atoll - June 2012

I am real glad you enjoyed the trip Nick. I too had a great time. Putting on these trips certainly makes all the work worthwhile when we have such a great group of wreck heads onboard. I just loved the banter!!!

I wont even bother to put up too many shots as Jono Davies put us all to shame . Here are a few of some of my best parts.

But I think the face of Andris says it all.

Great trip. Cant wait to do it again next year!!

Not sure how long these trips will go. If you want to come I would really start planning towards getting some bucks sorted. Its one hell of a trip, not for the faint hearted but life changing!!!!

Got a few spots for next years trip so let me know if you are keen.

Great to see you here mate.

Have you got any shots that capture the full glory of Mitchell's 'Silver Surfer' look?

Guys,
For those that flew from the UK who's flight's worked out best in terms of connections and faff?
We never compared notes, but my flights were about as painless as you could expect for travelling that far. My return journey was easier and quicker that the Toomer/McCamley/Gillespie contingent.

The Baron's upgrade to first class on the outward journey to Tokyo was easily the most pleasurable.

You thinking of making the trip Pete?

I flew:

Virgin London-San Fransisco
United San Fransisco-Honolulu-Kwaj

United Kwaj-Guam-Seoul
Korean Seoul-London

Booked my flights via budgetair.co.uk

All but one of the others flew east into Kwaj, but it's 12 time zones so makes little difference apart from arriving on the Friday evening rather that Saturday morning. Also, 4 of us flew back on the Saturday having spent a few shitty days on Ebeye. It's possible to fly back on the Thursday, but there is a slight risk of being delayed on the transit back from Bikini if the conditions are bad.

I picked

BA London - Tokyo
United Tokyo - Guam - Kwaj

And same in return. It was painless. And getting upgraded to First on the initial flight was a nice way to kick off.

I chose flights to overnight in Guam. Any of the main hotels (Marriott, Westin, etc) around Tumon are fine for the stay over. Guam is nothing to write home about, I've been there 6 times after two Truk trips and one to Bikini, if the flight schedules changed to eliminate the Guam night that would be fine by me !

Wouldn't mind stopping on Hawaii / Honolulu for a change.

If (when) I do Truk or Bikini again, I'll copy my route out which was

Virgin to Tokyo
United from Tokyo to Truk / Kwaj

Picked Virgin over BA as they allow a free bag for dive kit.

Great report, I am heading there in August, looking forward even more to the trip after reading this, thanks
