Kent Tooling Backplate

Mine weighed 5kg, the new design is a bit heavier.... Twice as heavy as the standard 2.5mm b/plate.

Thanks for that, my heavy back plate is a few years old so i'll go with the 5kgs.

my standard back plate is 1.7kgs, which means i may have room in my luggage for a spare pair of undies. :)

No as much as that box of yours. Don't tell me you need even more ballast?

the unit in standard set-up comes in at 20kgs.

I'm just working out how to beat the airline baggage allowance and it would appear i'm going to win.......

If it were me, I'd attach a small rucksack to the backplate and carry it on the jet as my "personal item" ... and wear several pair of undies to boot, just to make sure.... why consign to baggage what you can wear?

I've purchased a very nice 'Fishing Jacket' from Amazon that has lots and lots of pockets ;)

I'm actually not kidding about adding a rucksack bag to a backplate and wearing it on... over here a certain well known RB diver made a drawstring bag that fit over the entire back of a mini-rEvo, and carries it aboard airliners as her bag. To anyone looking it just appears to be a backpack.

Now here's a product for some manufacturer to make: A divers backpack without it's own straps that has grommets to allow it to be attached to a backplate for carriage, large enough to carry regulators, mask, and computers, and small enough to be accepted as carry-on luggage.

Hmmm...... Uhh.... methinks the nice lady at the parachute issuance loft at the base is going to have a project to make for me...

The problem comes when the lovely check-in staff ask to weigh your carry-on, which they have a habit of doing in the UK.

My problem is a total of 37kgs to get a Sentinel and Kit out for 2 weeks diving in Sri-Lanka, its tight as hell getting everything into 30kgs hold and 7kgs carry-on.

When I lived in England I used to go to Egypt once a year, so I would pack my rebreather in a carry on case and leave it in a left luggage locker the ones you pay for.

Check in and then collect my Carry on Case from the locker, it saved me a fortune in excess baggage.

It's better to leave the contents in the locker (or car) and insist on getting the hand-luggage checked sticker from the desk....has worked for me before too!

Singapore Airlines, 32kg limit, Inspo with Cylinders, gas diving kit and luggage. No problem - I left the contents in the car, checked in, got stickered, 25kg hand-luggage NP.

Or attached to a RB case. I did it for my CK when I was living in the USA and flying through the country from O'Hare. I used one of these generic drybags made of some sort of tarp and cut the grooves I needed, added some velcro and gromets. Voilà.
Except from the BOV, everything for the CK fits in: Breathing hoses and first stages go into the CL case, CLs are rolled and go into the scrubber canister along with some undies and socks.
I had no questions other than the usual "Is this for scuba?".
Except for the one time I flew with a packed scrubber and I had to bin the lime to make the X-ray guy happy.
Best

What's the real weight of the Sentinel without bottles ready to travel, without original box? I mean the standard version with case NOT with travel frame...
