This thread will soon celebrate its 5 year anniversary, so I wouldn't hold your breath, or it might be you going blue and not the aurora. Matt.

BOV when jumping off a boat

I go on the loop as soon as I can on the boat so I can confirm the cells are moving and the tempstick is warming up. Jumping in is just the same as OC, no drama there. As soon as I am in I check the handset. The surface can be a dangerous place as there are many distractions. Check...

Diluent flush and current limited cells

I don't think Brad want's to comment on the APOC electronics - there's still no ETA for them despite the fact that a) they work, b) they had massing R&D budget and c) they are best in class with lowest WOB, more PDF's than can fit on a long stick and with certifications coming out of their...

    New X-CCR checlist posted!

The short one is better than the long one IMHO. Only oddity for me is the advise for 1-min minimum pos/neg. I can only speak about the Inspo but you don't detect anything other than catastrophic leaks in less than 3 mins. Understood you can do longer than the check-list suggests. Cheers Matt.

Diluent flush and current limited cells

Do you know any manufacturer of cells used in the popular rebreather market that publish this, Brad? Agree it would be interesting to note. Which other company has recreational eCCR R&D budget in multi-millions? Can't be OSEL as they don't ship any eCCR. From a user perspective it doesn't...

Diluent flush and current limited cells

Correct. Cell reading on Inspo is still maxed at 2.55, which is the max value of the 8-bit numer (11111111 = 255).

Diluent flush and current limited cells

Hi Brad, Of course all cells have an upper-limit for their output, so the term current-limited would need some sort of formal definition. I have no clue what the upper-limit for a new cell is, other than I know there is one. I do know it is higher than 1.6, so that's all I need to know. When...

Diluent flush and current limited cells

I'd bet you 50p that the majority of divers are checking this occasionally and that the number not checking it at all is large. But we can't have the bet, because we have no way to know. What would be interesting to know is why people with old cells still trust them, to the point where...

Diluent flush and current limited cells

Not sure that everyone is in no doubt about this problem and actually knows how to deal with it - I'd suggest the the machine will warn me mentality is already out there, but with some common cases omitted. Matt.

Diluent flush and current limited cells

[/COLOR] I have never understood why we cannot have a warning for potential current limiting. Here we have the unit asking the solenoid to deliver O2 and one cell responding when the other 2 are not. This could be a solenoid/gas-supply issue, but either way something is a miss and the unit...

Diluent flush and current limited cells

I don't know where his BOV was connected. It's equally likely that it was connected to the Dil as it was to an off-board; both configurations are popular. I think the point Fock is accepting (he's not putting it forwards) is that a full dil flush at 55m would use a lot of gas. Martin said...

Agreed for a full-flush. I think that's the point that is being made.

Diluent flush and current limited cells

121:I think the point is badly made. At 55m the PO2 could be 6.5. Bringing 6.5 down to <2.55 is going to take a fair amount of diluent. I doubt that Philip considered excessive use of diluent in his thinking process at all and find it unlikely that diluent supply played any part in the...

    Drysuit zip issue

The teeth are not aligned, the zip is junk. Try fully opening it and see if it will realign. Matt.

Diluent flush and current limited cells

This. And the reason that this is not always easy is that you need to be deeper than your low SP to do it properly. [i.e. shallower than 25m for an air-dil]. If you try doing it at high-SP it really doesn't tell you much at all. Try this...

Diluent flush and current limited cells

It wouldn't help in that situation, I was answering 2 questions in one post. Nothing helps in that situation other than being able to diagnose WTF. NERD is a type of HUD, I guess. NERD is a computer with a Head-up Display, rather than a PetrelEXT which is a computer on your wrist. If you...

Diluent flush and current limited cells

Add a NERD? If you have 2+ bust cells leading to voting logic errors (low readings extend deco so are less of an issue) then this is a corner case; and you have bigger issues than deco to worry about. Matt.
