    Our set up - JJ-CCR

Yes - always have breathable dil via the BOV. We have whips on all stages and switch accordingly.

    The 50 hours magic boundary

I used to teach for an agency where the community was small enough to have an individual progression route set out for each diver. I could say do 25 dives before your next class - or do 50 dives before your next class and the following instructor would see this and ask for confirmation. When...

Team Diving Discussion Breakout (Was Chasey's Incident)

Deep circuit can be done with one drive gas. It's nice nice relatively easy CCR dive. It's going further in which gave us things to think about as well as gas management when plans changed and logistics when diving with different set ups. We could have done some things differently and with...

    Revelation on BO gas planning

DIR principles suggest that if a diver suffers complete gas loss from a back mounted twinset then he will be able to rely on a buddy to get him out. That means the buddy has sufficient left at any stage of the diver for two divers to ascend on a stressed SAC rate. Thus the term minimum gas or...

Team Diving Discussion Breakout (Was Chasey's Incident)

Clarification on the above post. There is no GUE training route to CCR at present. The training route to SCR is through tech 2 and then yes, you need a reason beyond just wanting a new toy. The other, yet again anonymous 'someone in GUE' comment is equally misleading. Name your sources. Not...

    Buying a JJ

Swap tear-aid for aquasure for fixing holes - far superior and doesn't float off :)

Functional Safety, Human Factors and General Safety Discussion (Moved from Mk VI)

Gian. You have had several users ask you to back off a bit. I'll add my voice to them. Give it a rest please.

Hyperoxia or Hypoxia - Formal Definitions?

You are right that it differs. I see less than 0.18 as hypoxic and more than 0.5 as hyperoxic. The former because that is the least amount of O2 available on surface naturally and thus we can function and the latter as this is the level we can start monitoring symptomatic long term Pulmonary...

    Ratio deco for ccr?

Please don't use resettable average depth counters. I've seen people reset them by accident and then, as they were letting it do things for them, have no idea what the depth had been. (I married him a few years later though so it can't have been that bad)

    7s Ali or steel

:D We use our 7s regularly in the UK. No issues at all. Abroad we use 3s as hard to get steel 7s (impossible in the US as am far as I can see). But simple answer is you need steel for back and Ali for stages for an optimal set up.

    7s Ali or steel

Alis weight too much out of water and require a lot of lead to sink when diving a dry suit.

    Oxygen Toxicity and CCR Diving

I run 1.2 on the bottom (manually - CCR is set to 0.7 - my choice) and I'm not too anal about keeping it right up at 1.2 - I am more wary of exposure to oxygen during the bottom phase of the dive than wanting to shorten any subsequent deco commitment on the long dives particularly when exerting...

    Oxygen Toxicity and CCR Diving

Indeed. We've run a 12/6 pattern - or variations of for years. Max time I personally do on O2 without a break is 25 minutes - although longer times get split into shorter segments, 15/5; 20/6 etc. Counting break time as deco is dependant on the length of the total stop in my view. I have...

Edited. Hour of my life wasted on that one.

    Ratio deco for ccr?

So I've explained, in answer to a question, what I do when diving - and the response was not inline with the spirit and ethos of the community. Why did I bother? Bye.

    Ratio deco for ccr?

Good post Stuart. But what makes you think that is not DIR ratio deco? ;)

    Ratio deco for ccr?

Peter. My buddy and I have done well over 1,000 dives using ratio deco. I've not once used a computer for a deco dive. All our training was based on it and all dives from 6-90 meters and 30mins to 360 minutes in ocean and cave. I would not recommend it as a strategy to anyone else especially...

CCR with Team Diving in Mind.

*pedant alert* Deco on the fly means to deco when swimming. It is not another name for ratio deco even if it does sound like "make it up as you go" *pedant mode over - sorry my pet peeve. More interesting question is what to do when ratio deco and SW disagree. If I could dive the JJ in gauge...
