Golem Shrimp for JJ

Looks like the JJ BOV is gonna take awhile because of the CE ? So what is my best bet? The Golem shrimp? Im diving in cold water. Anyone tried it in really cold waters OC at depth? Prone to free flow? Based on Apeks? WOB OC and CCR compared to JJ BOV?

They have lots of versions. Which one fits the JJ? What parts should i order? What length LP hose etc.

Thanks in advance

I cannot comment on suitability on the JJ, but as far as cold water diving goes, the shrimp performs flawlessly. The deepest I have tried it in cold water was 75m at 4C water temp. Coldest external temperature prior to a dive was -12C. No problems at all. Breathing is very smooth and O-rings do not leak with temperature fluctuations. The Shrimp is a well designed BOV with the correct machining tolerances.

Just an idea... I have a brand new JJ BOV set up for a JJ here that I could toss in a box and send. You would want to do the small modification that has proven to be a success, and would then have the "correct' BOV for the rig.

PM if interested.

You use the one for the Dolphin with left feed, I have just bought one and got the Diva HUD holder, then had a small sleeve machined to fit the HUD into the holder. One of the nice things about the Shrimp is that you don't use any hose clamps, cable ties or anything to secure the hoses. It comes with an inner sleeve and then you fit the outer sleeve over the hose and it is sealed by compression. The other nice thing is that you can remove the BOV hoses really easily with the bayonet fittings, so it allows you to check your flapper valves after every dive and dry your hoses out quicker.

The Shrimp breathes a lot better than the JJ BOV, which my unit came with, and I did the Mods as suggested but it still forces air out of the exhaust diaphragm on hard inhalations. In addition to this, when the inhale flapper valve was wet, it would leak air past it when doing a loop pressure test. The only Mod I didn't do was the one suggested my Techdiverdude but I've seen his one first hand and it looked good. I have now replaced the barrel and put the JJ BOV back to standard as I may sell it and I wouldn't want to sell a modded bit of kit.

Here are a couple of pics of the Shrimp on the JJ hoses.

We have sold numerous Shrimps to people diving all different rebreathers. Not one has had anything negative to say. You will be happy with your decision.

I switched from a JJ BOV to the Golum Shrimp

Very nice unit, les jaw fategue and it breaths well on OC. In CCR mode the WOB of the JJ is aparently better but not noticably so.

I have the dolphin type fittings and Diva mount with home made HUD holder

(I choped up a SS jube clip to make it)

Best bit is the quick release for stripping it to drain the loop hoses rather than unscrewig the hose from the unit.

Looks like a high quality product and someone mentioned testing it at depth in cold water with good results to. Anyone tried the JJ BOV in cold water?
