That was a very common system before people started using bov's.
You bail out to your own cylinders first anyway, so getting a reg to you buddy isn't as much a priority. When getting a reg for yourself, speed is a bigger priority. |

Granted, but if handing off cylinders is ever on the menu then you've got a similar problem. Not at speed but still tricky.
I'm only asking because I dive sidemount OC and have my left reg in a similar fashion but couldn't make it work once I put a breathing loop on. I was going to reverse the feed on the reg, have it come in front of my shoulder to my neck and shorten the hose. |

The doner just has to detach the reg from their necklace to hand off the clyinder. Depending on how you have your necklace set up, it shouldn't mean you having to take the loop out of your mouth. Some just slip off and others break will pulled.

Some just slip off and others break will pulled. It was more the hose round the back of the head and under the loop that concerned me. You can no longer take it over your head. It would need to be unthreaded and regs are awkward shapes and catch on things. I'll have to try it. Maybe it's not as awkward as I imagine. |

I use a 5' hose on my deep bailout for both wreck and cave. I like to have some extra options with the 5' hose. And it's more comfortable if you have to bailout to it.

I use between 1.5 & 2 (depends what hose I have on what reg) all bungeed to cylinder.
Logic is that in a kerfuffle I will always have enough hose for me if it gets caught anywhere en route. Also better to pass off to buddy as reg and then pass stage over. I think the OP question is two fold as it with regards necklacing the 2nd stage in lieu of a BOV, in these circumstances I would not want a long hose as I would not hog loop it (due to the loop) but the BOV is the best option.
