CCR diving isn't hard and you don't need to dive it deep. CCR diving isn't an elitist sport - it's an expensive one.

I think anyone who would like to dive one should - it's a hobby, it's fun. Get trained, enjoy.

Simple CCR set-up, no side-slung, just long NST times at shallow depths make CCR perfect for anyone with the appetite to learn and the desire to practice.

I agree. However, CCR diving can be extremely cheap if you dive simple units at shallow depths and it's still highly rewarding. Post WW2 when everyone who dived dived an O2 breather - ranging from the Davie Apparatus through to the Frau Dragers like Hans Hass did - cost was not prohibitive with simply O2 and slime to worry about. Sure people karked it but lots of OC divers do that daily. I'm looking forward to the day once again when a new diver starts off on a simple O2 breather rather than OC.

Me too! I also don't class myself as Experienced at something until I have had ~100 exposures. After this I find I'm ready to move on to the next level as Dave suggests.

I would have been quite happy to start off with an O2 unit and do 100 6m shore dives up in the western lochs or something.

In fact it's my plan for any free weekends in summer.

Got a tent, 1000 litres of veggie oil for the van and a big tin of O2.

+1 on this

To me its simply a hobby
I hear so much about only buying a unit for the purpose of deep diving -70m
I simply bought a unit because i wanted one,I wanted to be tought how to use it.
